Playing Gta IV on pc wiht a 680 4gb evga card, and getting about 35 frames at 1080 while recording, i want to get back to recording at 40 frames at least but i also would like the 4-5k super sampling resolution i can tweak on the game (yes it runs stable) but when i run the 5k super sampling i get about 20 frames average while recording. i think it is mostly because of my graphics card. im not sure which way to go. my gtx 680 get a little hot bout 80 degrees celsuis but i was going to get a liquid cooler for it and see if i can oc the card. but i realized there are better cards out there. im not sure which way to go. my questions is should i just sli another 680 so i can get more frames? or should i buy a new single card and sell this one. 780ti or 290x? please help thanks

Solution
another 680 4gb is the most powerful you can get while staying within a great budget... the next no noticable but slightly more powerful is crossfire 280x/7970ghz... after that you need crossfire or sli 780/290/290x/780ti.
@Nubitz. im going to be running a game that is confined in a 1080x 1920p resolution on one screen but the in game specs of the resolution are going to be running at 5760x 3400. im doing that now with this card and getting about 15-22 frames with it. i want a card that will do this justice and then a little.

and my specs are
amd fx 8350 at 4.7ghz
nzxt kraken x60 cooler
16 gb corsair ram at 1600mhz
1 ssd samsung 840 240gb
1 Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 Internal HDD - 1TB
asus crosshair formula z Motherboard

the game gta iv is about 5 years old its been re rendered through a graphic program (enb) and in realtime with new in game shaders, and resolution changes. the textures are very low quality compared to new games. and this is all i will be using the card for.. the in game specs look great on one monitor its for recording and you can tell the difference when it is super sampled versus multi sample. this game has the potential to look like real life just needs the right card so i can record real life with it. so im a bit confused now.... would this amd card be better to go with or does physx really work better with any game... also how much ram would i need on the card i use about 3000mhz on the memory now and everytime i use this card it runs at full load almost..

I will say with confidence that my 7970's have been great to me since launch and have never really had a driver related issue. To be completly honest i had 10 times more issues with my GTX 480 then my 7970's and the 280X is the 7970 so yeeahh.

its not refined. it has a lower speed than the original 7970. the only thing about it that is different is a lower price and slower turbo speed. whereas the 770 is cheaper and has a higher speed but uses more power than the 680

if you have a good power supply and it can handle sli.... and you can find a decent price on another 4gb 680/770... that would be the route to go. it saves you some money and the hassle of selling a card. not to mention it would be far far faster than even a waterblocked 290x/780ti

i have a 1200 gold rated cosair psu... the point is im running one specific game gta iv for pc. it runs on rage with another graphic ehnahcement mod (enb) running in realtime over the graphics while playing. i want to be able to run the fps smooth as i can. and still play. i get about 20 frames now with 680 4gb at 5760x3400 resolutions contained in a 1080x1920 screen. i want whatever the problem is due to frame rates being low solved. which gpu will solve that?

these are examples of me recording the game in 5760x3400 resolution confined in a 1920x1080p resolution but slow laggy..

this is an example of me recording the game at original 1920x1080p within one monitor that is also 1080p

if you watch both of these you will see the difference. in 1080p..

i had recently bought the 780ti sc im going to return it now. because now i have another issue it runs super sampled at 5k resolutions great but not at 7k when at 7k it runs at 15-25.. and this is for gta iv. im thinking maybe return it. take my add off craigslist about selling my gtx 680 4gb and just buying another 680 4gb. sli so i get more ram? for more textures? and more resolution? and more frames right?

its very probable that your only limiting factor is your vram

ok so answer that questions? should i just return it and get another 680 4gb? or should i try to sli the 680 and the 780?/ or should i just return the 780ti sc and get a r9 290x 4gb?

you cant sli the 780 and 680 together, they are 2 different cards. I would say if you want to save money return it and get a second 680 4gb. the r9 290x is also a good choice for high resolution but right now the card runs very hot so wait for aftermarket coolers.
