GTX 750 Ti or GTX 960

Brief background-
I, in a few months, will be going off to a boarding school, where NO gadgets are allowed. I will have a total holiday time of roughly 3 months.

So, should I buy the GTX 750 Ti and upgrade later, or buy the GTX 960?

Edit - System Specs- FX 4100,GT 610( I know, its bad),4GB Ram, Win7 Ultimate 64Bit

GTX 960 because GTX 750ti won't hold out too well against some of today's and future's games.

960 for high/moderate gaming use , 750ti just for general use, light gaming. Depends what you want to do with it.

I am looking to play Cities:Skylines, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry and other AAA games.
Also looking to play some steam indie games.

You should get a 750 ti and another 4 gigs of ram. most games need 6-8 gigs now and the 750ti is still a solid card.

Agreed, I have the gtx 750 ti and I can play all of my non FPS games at ULTRA settings 60fps 1080P!

However, if you can afford the 960 then go for it. It will fare better in DX12 games.

But beware that fx 4100 is a terrible CPU, if you can try upgrading that to a FX 6300 at least (to prevent bottlenecking http://pcpartpicker.com/part/amd-cpu-fd6300wmhkbox).

With that CPU , go with the 750ti.
