Hey. I have a GTX 650 and i can't really choose between this 3 cards. Games that i play are:
Battlefield 4
Neverwinter
and Warface.
But i'm getting a new card because of Battlefield 4. This are my PC specs:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965
GPU (currently) Nvidia GTX 650
RAM: 8GB RAM DDR3
HDD: 1TB
OS: Windows 7 32 bit (getting 64 bit of course)
so.. which one should i get? 7970 will be MSI Lightning Boost edition or CLUB 3D , R9 280x will be Toxic or CLUB 3D, and GTX 770 will be MSI Twin Frozr OC or Gigabyte OC. Thanks guys!

Solution
People should try to be a little less emotional about this debate.

You can show me all the synthetic benches and FPS tests you want, but my real life experience using both GTX 780, 770 and 7970 Vapor X, etc, is that the Nvidia cards are more reliable higher performing over time. I've had all kinds of driver and reliability problems with the AMD cards, but literally zero issues with an EVGA 780 FTW and MSI Gaming 770s. For a long time I was a AMD fan and used them exclusively in all of my personal and business builds. But as the reliability issues of AMD both in terms of inconsistent performance and poor driver support became problematic over a number of months in a number of different builds, and I didn't have any such issues with...
wow here they have like 20 pieces in a shop and none get sold cause shop vendors lie people r9 290 are complete unstable and bad quality and only 780 is worth. pretty much they pay 100€ more for it lol. ridiculous for a few fps more or higher score in a few apps and games to pay that much.
I owned a 780 but for it's price right now is not worth squat.

Because the reference versions run loud and very hot, and considering all the non-reference models are $50+ more than the 780..... Nvidia also has a bit better software support. There is currently only one non-reference 290 model (that i liked considering the others were of non-reputable/bad companies) under $500 which is an xfx card. But more than 50% of the reviews claimed it was bad.

Well...considering this website has ".com" i think its based in the USA. The OP has not specified though. Yes, i only realised a day or two after posting that a 256-bit memory interface doesn't help much with 4gb, but like i said, if the OP is only going to use it for temporary purposes, then the 770 is the way to go, but if he wants to keep it for at least 2 years or so on single gpu, then the 280x is the better choice. But if he wants to keep this card for over 2yrs, then I reccomend a gtx 780 (evga sc acx version). It performs as good as the r9 290 since its Superclocked and you can manually overclock even more. 384-bit memory interface is more than enough for the next 3 years at least, the 512-bit on the 290 is just for plain marketing solutions IMO. But if you do have the extra money then get the asus r9 290, it's cooling is nice(sadly not as good as 780/280x), it has more RAW POWER than other cards, and if you overclock(though doing oc with this one may not be a great result), you may gain more fps. Another big advantage is that mantle is coming, and consoles are amd-based so the pc versions may be amd-optimized too. I would've gone for the 290, but considering i dont have the money.., ;(

btw kakorat the 3 r9 290 i posted were all custom not reference and check the ending .de .uk .com o.o and they all cost less than 780.
i will mention again that the price depends on regions and countries. even usa as you saw in the .com link.
512 bit is no gimmick. the card owns 4 gb vram. the 384 bit on 780 is nice cause it owns 3 gb vram.
about console using amd.
k but the imported games from console in pc are crap as seen in many titles. lag, glitches, errors, failures ....
they should understand pc is not a console and codecs vary depending on the used os.
yeah 770 rocks but I will never pay more than 20$ for 4gb version. tested it and only wonder was 1 more fps in heaven benchmark at 2560 rez

Hmm....seems legit, the msi one is cheap but idk its performance. The rest r diff countries so i dont know price.
But wat about games like bf4 and thief? They run nice.

its funny because its not true at all.

not know? then inform yourself lol.
the msi gaming are well made gpus. they are used as well in gtx 770, r9 280x, gtx 760, r9 270x...
may not be the same with msi lightning but they perform very well.
the gigabyte version is from germany. I hope you know of windforce performance. well they go for 400€ around here. denmark as well. swiss as well. gtx 780 costs 500€....
400€ = 549$ so 500€ = 686.5$ well both are damn overpriced but oh well 686 for 780? no ty.
uk one at 329 pounds = 548$
well depends on regions and countries. each have different prices. from what I have seen there are like 14 countries where r9 290 goes for less than gtx 780. of course there are countries with 780 cheaper. depends.

bf4 is still a bit buggy. it performs better now after being corrected and edited by the staff quite a lot. remember when it came out.
I heard about thief being completely edited after being ported because it kept crashing every 5 minutes and made the character lose the head texture and look like a damn ghoul lol.
and btw r9 280x can surpass gtx 780. you need nitro cooling and oc it to dead if it can even be managed lol

if you ask me this topic is a tad bit pointless... all three of these cards are on par with each other. with the 280X and 7970 being made for multi-screen setups due to its 3GB DDR5 memory and the GTX 770 being made mostly for 1080p gaming. The 280X to my knowledge is just a re-branded/suped up 7970 so let's remove the 7970 out of the question.

so it's really GTX 770 vs AMD r9 280x. the 770 performs a tad bit better in 1080p gaming for various reason while the 280X starts to get the crown in multi-screen setups but wait a minute, the GTX 770 has a 4GB version so you render the 280X useless now. Here comes mantle API and Dice deicdes to put it in there game. Okay, WoW im getting 80fps+ on my 280X however that seems kinda useless when all you need is 60fps. Which I can vouch on a GTX 770 im avging 65-80fps and this is the 2GB version.

So basically, the GTX 770 4GB version takes the crown.

I rest my case.

P.S AMD cards aren't the best at CF

Yes but the OP didnt specify the location. Relax.

be like the 700 series? At release, the first 700 series were weaker than the best card in the 600 seri

True, but do you think that the 800 series will be like the 600 series? At release, the first 600 series were weaker than the best card in the 500 series, maybe the same will happen to the 800s as well....

who knows? but errrm I never mentioned anything about them being weaker or stronger o.o all i want is for them to pop up so the 700 series prices will drop high time lol.
as for guessing given nvidia ways I guess the 860 should at least perform the same with 770. as for hoping I hope the 850 ti will surpass gtx 780. but that at decent low prices and not stupidity high like 1000$ for a gpu....
and evgalover you really are retarded. got the impression tom's hardware forum revolves only around what you like or not? didn't mind it but it looks like you kinda love to tell a lot of people here to leave the forum. fail...

Before you go hoping that Graphic card prices drop and which on is better. I would be more concerned about the price of 4K monitors. You can have anything stronger performance wise than a 780 and it won't do anything for you with a 1080p monitor at 60hz

damn i got asus r9 280xdc top befor few days and for 1 hour playig bf 4,bf3,crysis 3,guildwars,skyrim each of this games i got huge amount of artifacts, didnt colock it.vram is shit cant be cooled, and it cant be fixed,so i return it back.ill try with gtx 770.my advice dont buy this card. amd fail this time for me....

Are you stupid? Why would we pay the same price as a gtx 780 for a gtx 770 with more Vram? With your logic the MSI r9 280x 6gb gaming is the best.

Wait a second, did you just link a GPUBOSS BENCHMARK as your SOURCE?! Are you that dense? That site is known to have lots of false benchmarks and fanboism. If your gonna link sources look for sites like HardOC and Anandtech.

Dense? lol. Thanks. I put GPUBOSS because frankly they are the only site I've discovered so far that pits a specific GPU against another on one page. Am I dense for throwing Passmark on too? All the benches you will see the difference. Is that how you make others look inferior? By calling them names? lol
