Hey. I have a GTX 650 and i can't really choose between this 3 cards. Games that i play are:
Battlefield 4
Neverwinter
and Warface.
But i'm getting a new card because of Battlefield 4. This are my PC specs:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965
GPU (currently) Nvidia GTX 650
RAM: 8GB RAM DDR3
HDD: 1TB
OS: Windows 7 32 bit (getting 64 bit of course)
so.. which one should i get? 7970 will be MSI Lightning Boost edition or CLUB 3D , R9 280x will be Toxic or CLUB 3D, and GTX 770 will be MSI Twin Frozr OC or Gigabyte OC. Thanks guys!

Solution
People should try to be a little less emotional about this debate.

You can show me all the synthetic benches and FPS tests you want, but my real life experience using both GTX 780, 770 and 7970 Vapor X, etc, is that the Nvidia cards are more reliable higher performing over time. I've had all kinds of driver and reliability problems with the AMD cards, but literally zero issues with an EVGA 780 FTW and MSI Gaming 770s. For a long time I was a AMD fan and used them exclusively in all of my personal and business builds. But as the reliability issues of AMD both in terms of inconsistent performance and poor driver support became problematic over a number of months in a number of different builds, and I didn't have any such issues with...

280x is faster than 770 !!

though i couldn't watch 780 ti there's a problem watching the video on youtube. idk why !!

eventually, i'm not sure .. so my opinion still with 770.

Nowhere does it say what resolution he's playing at, only that it is a 1440 IPS monitor. Nor does he show the settings in the game. Since the video doesn't include the video information, it is only speculation. However, in the following video the author does list the specifics. I always show all information.

Here's a 780ti on 1080p.

Compare again to my 280x

Yet, people are recommending a 770 over a 280x for BF4. Simply amazing.

this is ridiculous, the tahiti chip is better than the gk104 chip. this is absolutely NO argument, tahiti held EVERY world record across all measurements according to gaming, overclocks better, much higher 3dmarks, unigine, etc. lets not even bring in opencl/opengl where the tahiti just murders the gk104, even the gf110 is better than gk104 at that.

for the average user with a modest overclock keeping a 680/770/7970/280x under 75c, you will never ever notice much of a difference, UNLESS your using mantle and lower than a modestly overclocked post sandy bridge quad core or an eight core 83xx.

other than that, doller tahiti=dollar gk104 on the same tier gpu, tahiti is obviously the better choice unless you need a proprietary function like physx, cuda, or an app that specializes in being optimized fully for the gk104/nvidia.

So et's sum up all the arguments. I'd recommend you very basically to chose the card that is most stable in frames per second. I mean by that not just which one has the highest average, but which one has the least dramatic frame to frame drop. When people refer to geforce experience, they mean that the game seems more fluid, you won't feel like your game is constantly stuttering or jumping a frame, which can be annoying. I don't know wether or not AMD's new cards still have the micro-stutter problems.
Secondly, Mantle developped by AMD might bring quite some improved experience in game, but it's still in embryonic state (BF4 and Thief only for now). Last, AMD's r9 280x hasn't much improvement from crossfire for now, so if you expect to invest again in a year or so for CF, you might get disappointed.

The gtx 770 is a foolproof, and SLI works better. You might take the r9 280x if you trust that Mantle compatibility will develop exponentially in the 2 following years. Personnally, I took the gtx 770, and in 3 or 4 years, i'll maybe take an AMD, once the improvements would be concretely established. Now if you find a good promotion for r9, which makes is even 30$ cheaper, you should go for it.

The OP said:
But i'm getting a new card because of Battlefield 4.

He has a 965 cpu. A 280x is the logical choice if BF4 is the reason for upgrading. If the OP bought the 770, he hasn't reported back. I have a 965BE in another pc, and will put the 280x in for S&G. Guess which one will have the more stable FPS.....

What stuttering are you talking about? I get no stuttering.

yeah, im in this situation too, gotta do what you just said.

Here:
BF4 = R9 280x.
Watch Dogs = 770.

They're the same shit, just that in some games one out-performs the other. In this case I'd say, at this point the choice is between what do you prefer to play rather than which one is better. Even though I prefer nVidia over AMD, I think the 280x is more future-proof, not because of Mantle, but simply because of the higher Vram.

OP just choose one for what you intend to play, instead of 'WHAT GRAPHICS CARD BEST FASTEST 2 BUY @ SHOP', think what do you want to play? Oh, yes, Battlefield 4. Google - 'Does BF4 runs better on a R9 or GTX?' and find, 'Battlefield 4 is a migration from consoles and mantle will give it a better performance on the AMD rather than the GTX'. Great you found yourself a graphics card.

If you really keep focusing in which is better you will never get past the decision point.

BF4 ?
r9 280x
SIMPLE
BF4 is optimized for AMD cards , that's it . They're the same piece of dust , one performs a little better than another on certain games and vice versa
I prefer AMD cards , yeah they run hotter than nvidia cards , but it's the same story as intel , AMD looks for the highest overclocks possible , they already got to 8 ghz to prove it to you
Here's the link to the vid = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nKQ5uDA8TM
They only care about performance
But that doesn't mean you should ALWAYS go for AMD , nvidia's gpu's are great , but honestly , at this moment , my choice would be the 280x if it were for bf4
MY OPINION

That's exactly what I said, why are you even argueing lol.

Which is mine as well, the only way he will notice difference between these two cards is playing the games.

Their performance is pretty equal, although the 1+ Vram makes the difference in some titles, as BF4, that breaks the 2.5GB line. So the R9 is more future proof, yet needs a better PSU. But at this point, if you're going to skip BF4, might wanna go and pay more on the 770, but save by not buying a PSU. Like I said 280X recommends atleast a 750W psu.

from all the latest comparisons i've read the 280x is the better option for now. & Nvidia Experience is just some junk running in the background that changes you gpu's 3D configuration depending on the game. you don't want that if you're a real PC gamer because the only way to know what's best is to configure it yourself.

nvidia systemconfigurations allows for various settings and with a bit of tweaking you can even change some "blender, 3d coat.." settings and even "terrain, effects..." in many games. Geforce Experience it's pretty much useless true, but that is not the reason nvidia exists. Both 770 and r9 280x perform pretty much the same (own both and I don't see any difference, just a few (1-7 fps) in some games more optimized for it's respective gpu brand. I think it is quite necessary for this thread to be closed as it really has turned into a piece of sh1t honestly. The correct answer to the main question has been given there for quite a long time and the fact that more "complaint" answers contradicting each other keep uselessly poping out there making the whole thing more confusing ,became rather misleading and annoying. We all have foolish sides (myself included) but there is a limit as well ...

Im a little late here but when you look at benchmarks, they use high end intel cpus. He has an AMD cpu and the thing iv noticed is nvidia works better with AMD than radeon does. No idea why, but it just does. So towards his specific cpu, does he want to pay a little more for a card that seems tailored towards AMD or go for r9 280X which has mantle

I didn't realize "real gamers" (I'd use the term 'hardware enthusiasts') needed software to remind them to update their drivers, nor that they need a utility to automatically configure their graphic settings for them.

Why wouldn't you use the program to keep drivers up to the latest? Tell me. It's not like you can pick and choose other than Beta. Also you don't need to fiddle with graphic settings all the time when Max everything @ 1080p is so simple. It's all about Shadow Play which a hardcore "Gamer" would use. I don't know why I'm trying to argue about this. It's completely off topic. lol. Close thread I'm done. OP has probably bought their GPU long times ago. Hey GamerMT what did you decide on?
