Hey guys.
I just benched my MSI GTX 960 on Unigine valley extreme he preset.
I was wondering if these results were good for it.

Min FPS: 17.5
Max FPS: 67.2
AVG FPS: 34.7
Score: 1453

My cpu is a fx 8320 @ 4ghz. Those numbers seem low according to my research.

Thanks for the help! :)

I'm guessing your score is normal compared to clutch's.

Here'd mine with Athlon 760K and HD 7850:

It will depend on what settings you used with Valley. Here is a score I got with an Athlon X4 860K @ 4GHz/Evga GTX 960 FTW build I did recently. This was with all settings in Valley maxed out @ 1080p. At 4GHz, your FX-8320 should be somewhat better.

Hey thanks for the response. How would I know if it was throttling? The temps don't go very high because I have the fan speed on 40% or above at all times.

That test is also with the Extreme HD preset. So it's 1920x1080 8xAA fullscreen DX11.

HWMonitor says that the gpu was utilized to 99%, but it also says the core was only 540MHz. I think the 540MHz is just a glitch because GPUZ says its at the stock 1190MHz. My card is also NOT overclocked at all. I hope I didn't get a bum card because I already did the rebate :/. I played a few games (civ 5 and sniper elite 3) and they played fine so I assumed it wasn't a bad card.

EDIT: Also what driver are you using? I'm not using the most recent as I was having issues with it. Maybe I'll try it again to see if it improves performance. Also how do you benchmark yours? Do you turn off your Antivirus and all background apps? Or just Bench as is?

Thanks again!

In my case, I used whatever driver was newest when I ran the benchmark on 3/25/2015. Valley is almost totally GPU oriented. My GTX 960 was @ 1480 MHz. Every recent benchmark I've run with Valley no matter what components has the gfx card at or near 100% usage and the CPU quite a bit less.

@ Damric
Good OC on that HD-7850.

Damric,

I guess I'm just confused because I thought I would have scored higher. Especially compared to an Athlon and a HD 7850 (no offense, still great CPU/GPU). Is it because you have incredible overclocks? 4.7Ghz is really impressive and 1.2 as well!

Thanks for all your help and again I was not trying to offend you whatsoever.

@damric
Those are impressive numbers man! I, myself, am just getting into the O/Cing and benching scene. Trying to test stuff out. I don't play a ton of games and got the GTX 960 for $200 + $20 rebate and sold the game for $30. So after I get the rebate back it'll be $150.00. I mean I can't complain about that! It plays well on Civ 5, Sniper Elite 3, and Diablo III. Once I get Shadow of Mordor I'll test it on that too. Maybe I'm just being too paranoid. I'll D/L new driver and see how it runs. Also I am going to push my FX-8320 a bit more. I have it undervolted to 1.32 (stock 1.380) and core temps don't get over 42-44C on Intel Burn Test and socket temps don't get over 51-52C. I have a ton of thermal (as well as voltage) headroom!

@clutchc
I looked at my 8320 and there's no signs of throttling. There isn't a ton of cpu usage but you said usually Unigine Valley doesn't use CPU so thats no big deal. Also GPU is basically maxed out the entire time. I'll try to post a Unigine Valley picture tomorrow morning.

Thanks for all the help guys!

@damric
Thanks for the advice! I probably will! I really enjoy O/Cing as its fun figuring out the best settings and all!

@all
I think the benchmarks were about right. My GPU core is clocked at 1366.7 boost, and clocked at 1190 normally. CPU usage was also pretty high on a couple cores. I tried to print screen my results but they didn't quite work =(. Thanks for all the help though! I appreciate it!

what i have found is that the unigine valley benchmark really dosn't flatter the maxwell GPUs, my old 760 was pulling around 40fps on the extreme HD preset, quite a bit more than what the 960s seem to be averaging, and obviously a 760 is not as fast as a 960. The same with the 970 vs the 780, the 780 is averaging around 70fps, whilst the 970s are hitting 60 (Mine hit 62) and the 970 is a faster more capable card than the 780 (In most cases) run your card through 3d mark strike, that's a more "Neutral" and well rounded benchmark.

@Robertwhyte
Thanks for the suggestion! Just tried it and got 6471. I compared that to all other FX8320/GTX960 builds and it was 59th out of 200ish scores so I'd consider that not to bad as I haven't even O/Cd it yet! Thanks again!
@damric
Thank you very much as well! I will post a picture when I get a chance! Have been doing yard work all day :/
