So on my GTX 970 I have upped the core my 120 MHZ observing a boost clock of 1479mhz. MY fans are around 50 percent at 100 percent usage and the temps are 52 degrees! I have only upped the voltage by 15 MV and the power limit to 105%. I love this card, give me your results below!

Its my first time overclocking ever and i was able to get +230 boost core clock and +580 on my reference GTX 970 with max temps at 77 Celsius. Is this good? Or should i just give up on overclocking? lol

Just spent about 2 hours testing SLI after I got my 2nd 970 FTW+ I was a bit disappointed in the ASICS score of 66.3% but it kept up with my first card no problem that had an 82.7%. Overall, Im very satisfied with my achievement. Temps never topped 70 degrees Celsius. I noticed that putting the PhysX on the 2nd card really helps the score big time. I have no explanation for that since Im fairly noobish to over clocking and this is the very first SLI Ive ever run ever.

Thats your actual boost. Not every card is as good as the other so average cards will boost to the rated boost on the box, while good and better cards will boost much higher on its own. My first card would boost to 1531 without me overclocking anything while cards with lower ASICS scores would actually clock under the rated boost speed. When you add Mhz to your OC youre actually adding that to your final true boost speed. My 1531 + 133 comes out to 1664 as seen in my previous screen shot of Valley. That was what was explained to me by FigTech on youtube on his channel "FigTech". He did a pretty decent video on overclocking the 970 FTW+ and with SLI. He showed the difference in his cards ASICS scores as well.

I upped my msi GTX 970 GAMING to 1516MHz Core Clock (+175MHz) and 3702MHz Memory Clock (+200MHz). Never touched voltage so far, it´s maxed at factory 1212mV.
Just turned TDP to 110%, but Furmark reports it´s at about 77% max. Temperature is also damn low, just at freezing 50°C. I can´t see any trouble or artifacts.

Too good to be true?

Sounds like the cooler is amazing compared to the EVGA's ACX 2.0 :S I hate the fact that no one mainstream has made a full cover block for the FTW+ its eating me alive! I heard that there was a company taking pre orders for a custom made one but I have not seen any pictures or anything else about it. But I wish mine would run at 50 degrees, my room turns into an oven now when I play GTA5 :/

Hehe, well, I got a pretty overcooled machine anyway. My PC case feels like it´s made out of coolers. 3 front, 1 bottom, 1 back, 2 top, 1 side.
And additionally to that a huge CPU cooler with another 2 fans, the GPU coolers of course and the PSU cooler.

So one would maybe call my PC pretty loud, but luckily it doesnt bother me, especially not, when I wear my headset.

So yes, the temp is surprising me hard, but also the clocks I reach without rasing any core-voltage surprise me hard.

do the tests with all the maximum 1080p 8xAA quality ultra extreme tessellation. I do 1690pts and 1700pts with my gtx 970 with 1580mhz and 4030mhz stable . and for 1700pts put 1600mhz and do more than 5 tests and not break anything . but from time to time . I see some artifacts on the screen. so the 1580mhz is stable. because I can do more than 5 tests in a row that does not have any artifacts

This was my Valley Score just now.

Score

Max Temp was 62 Degrees C
GPU Clock was 1516 Mhz
Memory Clock 3861 Mhz

I didn't increase the voltage limit at all. It was at 1206 mV the entire time of the test.

Should I see if I can push it more?

The top card is hotter because it's using more PCI e bandwidth.

It's because it's close to the other card, that's giving off heat...

I'm trying to overclock my GTX 970, but I don't really know where to start off. Should I boost max GPU voltage or only focus on GPUBoost Clock and Memory Clock?
Here are my specs:
Intel® Core™ i7-4790K 4.0 GHz 8MB Intel Smart Cache LGA1150
- CPU / Processor Cooling Fan: Asetek 550LC 120mm Liquid Cooling CPU Cooler - Extreme Cooling Performance (Single Standard 120MM Fan)
- Motherboard: * GIGABYTE Z97X-SLI ATX w/ Intel GbLAN, 2 PCIe x16, 3 PCIe x1, 2 PCI, 1 x M.2, 1 x SATA Express, or 6x SATA 6Gb/s
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4GB GDDR5 PCIe 3.0 x16 (Maxwell) (Single Card)
- 8GB (4GBx2) DDR3/1600MHz Dual Channel Memory
I'm using 3D Mark and Asus GPU Tweak. Thank you all for help!

Try upping the core clock first, then when you find a stable overclock that you're happy with, move onto memory clock (for both, go up in 10-15Mhz jumps and stress test). Voltage should only be applied if you want to take the card even higher than the maximum overclock you can reach without adjusting the voltage.
Off topic question but what RAM do you have? Our motherboard seems to be really picky with what it works well with.

I honestly forgot what exactly RAM I have and I'm not at home to check. Is it relevant to OC? So as I understood, I don't have to play with voltage and can achieve good results without doing it?

Yes that's correct, you can use voltage if you choose to go for an even further OC.

So I was able to boost my GPU by 190MHz and the memory clock by 460MHz. When I tried to boost GPU more, it crashed. I tested it with Heaven and the initial score was 1364, while after OC, 1489.
What's the average gain of FPS if someone overclocks? I don't know if my results are okay.

Hi,

I have an eVGA GTX 970 SSC 2.0+ 4GB. I messed with overclocking a bit when I first got it but after finding out it could run GTA V (the reason I bought the card) no problem with all settings maxed out, I ended up leaving it at stock settings. Out of curiosity I decided to mess with it some more today and here are my results (keeping in mind I am referring specifically to my experience with MSI Afterburner for my overclocking software):

To start off with, remembering what I learned from when I first attempted this I set Power to 110, Core to +100, and Mem to +400, and ran a Unigine Heaven benchmark on Extreme.

Keep in mind throughout this entire process GPU temperatures never went over 65.

It turned out +100 Core Clock was too much actually so I had to lower it even MORE to +90 to prevent crashing during benchmark...

I eventually worked my way up to +550 on Memory Clock before I started noticing artifacts. I set it back to +525 and they were gone. I probably could have worked my way back up closer to +550 but didn't want to bother with it anymore, as no noticeable increase in benchmark scores was noticed from +400 all the way to +550 Memory Clock.

My final Unigine Heaven high score on Extreme settings was a decent: 1867, FPS 74.1

That's impressive! Mind I ask what's the catch with OC. I have the MSI 970 4G and I managed to OC +140 core clock, +200 memory clock with power limit at 110%. I can't go any further because I get power consumption at 109.6 % :S I have the i7 4790K with Hyper 212 EVO cooler. Any idea for boosting up the core clock more?

yeah thats weird.. i have msi 970 too... and with 87+ volt.. and 110% power limit... i can only get 150core clock and 400memory clock...

Exactly! I have posted a thread about my OC to ask if there is anyway I can do better and another guy told me he had similar OC results. The best results I have read browsing are similar to yours. +150 core clock and +500 Memory with max voltage and 110% power limit.

Btw if I up the voltage because at the moment I haven't touched it, will I be able to increase the memory clock? Or the core clock maybe? My power consumption is 109.6%. Do you think that's it for my 970?

hmm my power consumption never goes above 100% for some reason.. even tho its limited to 110% all the time...

Sorry my bad. Didn't explain well. The 109.6% is on the stress test on 3DMark Fire Strike. I was playing today for about 3 hours GTA V and the highest it got was 95%. But since the 3DMark benchmark reaches the 109.6% it means that I can't push it any further right? I'm new in OC :)
