Seeing how the 1070 is not released yet, it is too early to say. The 970 is a good card and you are probably going to be better off sticking with that for a couple more years.

im considering it. theres a few games where i could use a little extra juice out of my gpu at 1080p to really max it out, since i need all AA settings cranked up to the max(large tv, low resolution). really should invest in a nice 1440p 144hz monitor though

True but the Vram on my 970 is sometimes limiting me on my games, especially on textures

true however I'm excited for the price.

I currently have a 7870 and was planning on upgrading to a 970 on the 12th, now I'll hold off until the 27th and upgrade to a 1070, which will be faster than it for nearly the same price.

The 1070 isn't out until June 10th, it is the 1080 coming out on May 27th.

I can't believe a 1070 is getting up to Titan X performance, how are Nvidia going to sell any GPUs based on Maxwell when these cards are released, the new ones make them look very poor value for money.

ah damn I must have missed that part.

grabbing the 1080 then. any idea how much it will be CAD if it's $600 USD? going to consume my whole paycheck lol

its not getting up to titan x performance, wait for benchmarks from real users like me and you on dx11 like 98% of the games out right now. what they were mentioning was over titan x performance in VR which is where they have their new technology called multi(something, i cant remember the name of it to save my life) which alone gave the card a boost of 33fps in their demo which the titan x can't do, that upon being better supported in dx12 will give it quite a bump in performance in those VR titles. dont expect to buy a 1070 for $379 and have 980ti performance in your gta 5/witcher/battlefield and so on, its not going to happen.

$773 dollars CAD

Damn! I literally just bought a 970 a week ago for $300 total with tax. I only have a 1080P monitor. You think its in my best interest to return this 970 I just bought and get the 1070 for $80 more?

I don't think the you should change the GTX 970 if you are still playing on 1080p monitor. the GTX 970 still the best change for those who are gaming at 1080p. i don't know about VR. but regardless the 970 is enough and doesn't need upgrade, till now

I would go ahead and return it and spend the extra $80 whether you are gaming on a 1080p monitor or not. Future proofing is what you are buying and with the new release of information about the 1070 being more powerful than the Titan X I would be remorse to let you believe that the extra $80 is wasted on a 1080p monitor.

-_- again, not faster than the titan x

if I currently have a 7870 is there any reason to wait for aftermarket evga/msi card rather than grabbing the 1070 the day of?

how long do these companies usually take to start releasing aftermarket models?

i would wait(from what i heard) nvidia is only selling the founders edition cards at launch which is $100 more(for example 1080msrp $599 and founders edition is $699) and the other chips are getting sent to other vendors such as msi/gigabyte and so on.
