Seeing how the 1070 is not released yet, it is too early to say. The 970 is a good card and you are probably going to be better off sticking with that for a couple more years.
The 1070 GTX is obviously going to be much better then the 970 GTX but it is indeed not nessecairy to upgrade. Not just yet. I would upgrade if there is going to be a game which you want to play, but you can't play it on ultra or high because your card is outdated. Then it is time to upgrade, but for now, just see that your system is ready for the 1000 series so that if an upgrade is needed, you can upgrade easaly.

i dunno i have a 545 and was going to get the 960 4gb been wondering if i whould wait for the 1070 been hoping to learn what its power requirements are as im based on a X51 r1 330w.

i know the PNY GeForce GTX 960 4GB works perfectly...just hesitant to upgrade now and learn the 1070 would be way way better at the same power requirements or that on release the pny im looking at will drop quite a bit in price (210.00 on amazon)

Not sure where you got that information from. But I'm cool with it, it's guys like you that made it possible for me to pick up an EVGA 970 for $200 shipped off of ebay yesterday.

Not interested in early VR or gaming above 1080p anyway.

lol 1070 twice as good as a 970? Not hardly. Maybe 1.5 times the performance but......The 970 did a good bit better than a 770 but im not sure it was 2 times the performance. I know the 770 wasnt twice the performance of a 670 and the 670 wasn't either over the 570.

memory speed wont do much if anything currently with the power our cards have currently

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/geforce-gtx-1070-specifications,news-53001.html 😉 so I guess this answers alot...

However, I would suggest to be patient and wait for MSI/EVGA/Asus to make their moves. The wait pays off cause these company's will stabilize the cards... Since I've used msi, I didn't got any problems with it at all and I'm overly happy with it.

I know what I want for xmass. Untill then, I'll enjoy my GTX 770. I made the upgrade and I was running win7 previously, which means, now that I have win10, I can start fully utilise my card with dx12 :)

Notice how he says: "...and Nvidia’s partners will be able to sell their own custom cards for as little as $379.". Partners as in MSI/EVGA/Asus? So this means MSI for instance cards would sell at this price in America, and they would sell at €340? Ow, I am so down for this! Deffinatly!

I'm not a fan of overclocking, certainly not, with my new system. But anyway, even without overclocking, the GTX 1070 will still be the 2nd ruler of nvidia's videocards. Many people still think, after reading the article, that the titan x is equally powerfull to the 1070, I for one think the 1070 will be greater then the titan x.

I pretty much need to wait. But it's fine, cause, I can read reviews of it then.

I second this^^^. With Nvidia DSR and G sync working together now, a mid to "higher" tier card is all that's needed and even 1440p seems like a waste of money (DSR makes image quality really awesome). I'm using a 970 currently with an Acer Z35 which is only 2560x1080p but at 144hz it's much easier to drive than 3440x1440p and with DSR not affecting FPS at all, welp, all I can say is wow. I get 100ish FPS on my current favorite game ( though 10 years old) add to that the image quality of DSR (x4 resolution down sampling) AND G sync, the image is Godly and the play is buttery smooth.

Ha dsr does take effect on overall performance. Crank it up to 4k and watch your gpu sweat its a33 off. It doesn't take as much of a hit maybe as a true 4k monitor or 1440p monitor but it does indeed have an effect. Its not just free upgrade in quality. Your gpu is having to render the higher res images.

if it is true then the 1070 will be a much better choice over the titan x unless someone just bought a titan (sorry lol) cuz the 1080 that released yesterday is only $700 USD and titans are still going for $1.1k usd. but if the benchmarks are true for the 1070 then it will be almost double the 970. i also agree with whom ever said before that if you just bought a 970 stick with it for a while, thats what i have and have loved it but ive had mine for a year and a half and am ready to upgrade. ill probably save for the 1080 if i can get my hands on one.

I saw the vid in the link above. The 1080 isnt that much better than the 980 ti. I was thinking this generation was gonna be an enormous improvment but based on that vid it's a decent improvement, but nothing amazing. I'm still a little confused how the 1070 beat the titan, Nvidia may have used a test more optimized for the 10xx series because that's just really far fetched. I would think the 1070 would be in the 980 or 980 ti performance range.

The video above shows indeed that I am correct. It barely defeats the titan x and the 980ti. And didn't they say that the 1080 was a 980 times 2? The diffrence between the 980 and the 1080 is not much ingame but the testresults say otherwise. As I said an upgrade from a 980ti or a titan x is unnessecairy, but from a 700 series it's much better. And the 970 is indeed still good enough but if you have the money, why not?
