Hi Guys.

Will GTX 980Ti overkill at 1080p at 60hz monitor

My specs are

i5-4590
8 GB RAM
ASUS H97 Plus motherboard
1 TB HDD
Benq RL2455HM 1080p @60hz monitor

Will my specs bottleneck GTX 980Ti

Will GTX 980Ti will fully support DirectX 12 for coming days?
Is it future proof?

I play games like the latest multiplayer AAA titles like BF4, BFH, Arma 3, BF3 and some GTA5 as well. But I would love to max out all the settings. Even want to raise the resolution scale in BF4 to at least 150%.

So is this card great for all my AAA games? or I should wait for Pascal, coz when Pascal is release the GTX 980Ti and other NVIDIA card prices will come down a bit.

Thanks and any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading and your time.

Sounds good.

I have corsair 300R and Asus H97 plus will it fit there and can I SLI later another GTX 980Ti in future?

I think my Motherboard supports SLI.

No, you can't SLI with the Asus H97, it's crossfire only I believe. It would be a tight fit with a 300r anyway. Plus you'd need a beefy psu, 850w +. Trust me, for 1080p the 980ti will be enough for a long long time.

For 1080p @ 60hz, a 980ti will destroy almost anything you throw at it. There are some games that will still drop you below 60fps if you turn their graphical settings to the very max (The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, GTA: V, Total War: Attila, The Division etc), but mostly you'll be able to turn everything to max and not worry about framerate at all - including all Battlefield and Battlefront games.

A single 980ti is all you could possibly need at 1080p - anything more would be a waste of money.

The rest of your system won't hold a 980ti back in the majority of situations. There are some games that will max your CPU out, but only rarely. On the whole, its not a problem at all.

As for Pascal, I would suggest waiting until it releases in a couple of months. Waiting results in two scenarios: either you get a new Pascal GPU if they turn out to be worth it, or you get a 980ti for a discounted price.

BUT - You will need a good power supply (PSU) to be able to run a card like that. What have you currently got?

970 is good for 1080p and 1/3 the price. I have a 970 and a 980, the 980 is about 25% faster. My 970 does virtually everything at max settings at 1080p 60fps. My 980 runs a 1440p G-sync monitor and I'm glad it's G-sync because at the same settings in newer games, it dips below 60. Yes it's 25% faster but pushing 78% more pixels. 980 Ti would be much better for 1440p but it wasn't out or even announced when I bought 980. I could add another 980 but I don't really want to do SLI maybe unless it drops in price a lot (I will also need a new PSU).

If you want "future proof" probably wait for Pascal, the initial high end card will likely be faster than the 980 Ti.

That's what I'm confused about. Wait for pascal or just buy the GTX 980Ti

Ok, well youre going to need to upgrade your PSU as well if you want to run a 980ti, and especially if you want to SLI in the future.

You need a minimum of a good 550watt unit to be able to safely power a single card, or you seriously run the risk of frying it. For SLI, you'd need a good 800watt to be safe.

Id suggest something a long the lines of a good 80+ Gold model from the following brands: XFX, Seasonic, Antec, Corsair or EVGA.

I use an EVGA Supernova GS 550w to run my 980ti and its a very good high quality unit.

well 980Ti is the one for me and I can't wait to get my hand on.

Which one to go for?

Gigabyte G1 GTX 980ti
Zotac GTX 980Ti Extreme AMP
ASUS Strix OC GTX 980Ti

All of these 3 which one should I go for? MSI I'm not looking at it as I want the fastest and durable and stable.

If you look up what misnomer actually means you'll discover how ironic this sentence is. Your use of misnomer is a misnomer. Perhaps you meant misinformation or misconception.

Of course it's overkill. Even a 980 is overkill for 1080p 60 Hz in current gen games. Future proofing? Flagship cards are rarely very good value for money, ie. performance per dollar. He'll get a steady 60 FPS in all the games he plays, sure, but at something like 50-70% GPU usage. That, in my opinion, is money wasted.

If, however, he has plans to upgrade to a 1440p monitor at a (not too) later stage, it's a good investment.

the idea of future proofing is not to run games at max settings now its to run games at a overkill 120fps now so a few years from now it can pull 60fps
