Dang it, my reply edit got eaten by the server, anywhoo I'll summarize in this post;
AMW1011 :
My entire point is that expecting the GTX 4xx series to stay the same against the 5xxx series is ludicrous. It is perfectly reasonable, logical, and extremely likely that we will see a 5-10% performance increase almost across the board against the 5xxx series.
I understand that, and I expect both to improve, but that's why BFBC2 is an interesting point, both are dealing with drivers that don't have the benefit of much experience with the final title (from the many user perspective) and both have had the same amount of time to work on the beta, so from that perspective they are on pretty even ground. And while they both will improve there from drivers, unlike the other titles, it's in my mind more indicative of what we might see when there isn't a final product to spend 3 months developing for, which would be similar to the FX5900 and HD2900 experience. Remember the other games/benchmarks were well-established PR targets, so they had alot of optimizing since they were the ones that were going to be front and centre. The one that had equal time for both didn't do so well, but IMO is likely to improve greatly over time too, which leads me to the whole point of why you don't discount those results. I expect alot of new titles not long in the TWIMTBP pipeline will provide something more like this type of result;
New Title Day 01: HD5870 > GTX480
New Title Day 66: GTX480 > HD5870
Which is what I expected ever since they mentioned the design in October, and simply re-affirmed with the description of the Polymorph engine in January.
The only problem will be if the title you like to play (like Last Remnant) is one of the ones that doesn't see much love from the driver team to optimize for.
Anywhooo, I was more eloquent in my previous reply that got mulched by laggy server, but this is a bit briefer, however hopefully you understand what I mean, in that I definitely expect big things from Fermi's drivers, and it won't stay at X performance forever, but it's because of that that I think people aren't appreciating that this handfl of titles in these reviews aren't an unknown to nVidia, and aren't the titles I would expect the most boost from (I don't expect Crysis to see as much gain as BFBC2 or a newer title), nor the ones I would expect to hear driver excuses about since nV has specifically focused on these titles for this launch.
I suspect the bigger picture is far more 'all over the map' than we've seen sofar, which is why I can't wait for the reviews from everyone else with uncommon titles and uncommon situations.
