I've been playing World of Warcrack since it came out. As said before, extremely addicting, even after you realize it's a serious waste of time. Still gives me more fun than most games out there. I can grind, pvp, or play capitalist at the auction house(whoever thought of this is a genius).

I gave Guild Wars a shot, seems decent, haven't tried any of the expansions though. I 5-box my own group through instances now when I have time to log on. No waiting on people afk, wipes, etc. If I want to run a 10 or 25 man instance, there are guilds advertising all day long on my server looking for a few people to help, and I can take one of my characters in.

I quit a few times playing one character, if I get bored playing 5, then it's really time to hang it up. Yeah, $70/mo seems like a lot, but a few hours of online poker pays for it!

In my experience WoW was a 60 hour single-player game with an optional 40 hours of additional multiplayer gaming.

To unlock the 60 hour single-player content you have to spend at least 300 hours playing. If you can call running all over the same tired map, killing the same thing 40 times or more, and mounting a flight and walking away from your pc for 20 minutes playing. ( Imagine repeating this for 300 hours in many different zones and you get the idea )

To unlock the 40 hours of optional multi-player gaming you have to join a guild of abusive man-children as 'leaders' who losely organize a pack of racist homophobic man-children and just plain children through tedious and highly repetitious dungeons. You have to either have friends who are already in the game and will favour you, or play a class that is handi-capped and even more tedious to play solo. If you can invest at least 4 hours at a stretch on an almost daily basis in a tedious game, and easily befriend and enjoy the company of abusive racist homophobes you might enjoy WoW a lot. Expect a lot of 'We just raped those fags!' and the like, yelled into your ear for hours at a time during dungeon runs.

With the expansion the Burning Crusade, it is virtualy impossible to get a team together to run any dungeon outside of a guild. You can spend all day for several days in a row and fail to put a group together. With the grind through necessary quests and dungeons to unlock 'better' dungeons being so long, typically only weak players who want to use you, will want to group up for impossible dungeon runs, which you'll be glad to attempt rather than continuing to grind uselessly on your own. So, if you don't find an enjoyable guild before getting the Burning Crusade I'd recommend not buying it. Personally I'll never play WoW again. It taps into the false honor and glory that makes games addictive to lifeless and insecure losers like me, but your life will only get worse if you start sinking 4 hours a day everyday into a game that practically demands it. Addictive? yes. Fun? no.

Factions is pretty evil, with far too much grinding through city zones where getting from one point to another fifty yards away can require going right back to the start of the map again; however, you get to max level in maybe 6-8 hours if you work at it. Nightfall is fun and gives you heroes, which are like henchmen but with a lot more control over their skills and how you use them. GWEN seems fun so far but I haven't had much time to play it yet.

Haven't played WoW so I can't really compare, but what I like most about Guild Wars is that I can play it now and again without having to worry about a monthly fee.

WOW is about as horrible of a representation of online PC gaming that can be found anyplace. It is the exact opposite of what PC games offer and is a perfect example of sucking console gamers in and getting them to use there PCs. The game offers no challenge. It offers restricted hard coded no frills nothing to loose gameplay with no risk period. The pvp is horrible in comparison to any other pvp game around. The only pluss when comparing it to other MMORPGs is that it runs on anything and that is its main attraction. Other then consoles restricting development of games it IS a console game in a PC wraper.

GW is a very low time played game. You dont have to log in. You dont have to pay per month. Its great for casual players. It does not offer alot of content though. You have to be in a guild or you are screwed in PVP.

The best free game for pvp going is Shadowbane. It has full on city building, seige warfare, advanced char building, lootable inventory of players in pvp, easy learning curve. Fully free for all pvp. No WOW fluffy huggy pvp with silly factions. You dont like someone you kill them anyplace anytime. Horrible PVE.

Free for all PVP and great PVE can be found in Vanguard. VG has a very high system spec though. Not for the low end machines. Totaly free pvp. No safe zones. Great pve content. A tad buggy. No asset distruction. A good PVE game with FFA pvp available.

EQ2 is a joke and a slap in the face of online gamers all together. EQ1 is in the same boat now and is a dino of a game.

If you like Asian style games then Lineage 2 is for you.

I would also like to point out that compared to any other game online WOW has the most boring Raid setup around. There is nothing to it. You go into area A and kill mob A with x amount of people and you will do this every night for about a year before you can compete with other players.

PVP is a joke. Its about 6 monthes invested to compete and earn gear doing the SAME thing just like WOW raiding every night.

Ok,I started playing WOW and really liked it, but the monthly fee is stupid. So, im starting to lean toward GW. I've read what people have posted. And i see the pros and cons of both games. I like the variaty of each character in WOW and the leveling system. But, the graphics of GW seem pretty cool and the game doesn't look to be half bad(plus no monthly fee). Though I personally haven't played GW. So my question is, should i spend my money on WOW, a game that i already know i enjoy, but pay a monthly fee. Or should i buy GW and have it forever, but compare it to WOW and may be dissapointed with it. Basically, where would you recomend my money go?

No offense, but this was a completely awful, unsupported, and false statement.

Guild wars came out on April 28, 2005, and there have been two major expansions in addition to a third, which was created as a transition to Guild Wars 2 coming out in the future.

The last major expansion was released on October 27, 2006. The official Guild Wars site cost of each expansion game was US$45.00, or about Canadian $55. Now, the prices average around 20-30 US dollars for any of the expansions.

Now, in 2009, there have been three expansions since the release of the game in 2005. Even if you count the expansions at their full price of original release, that averages about 17 cents a month for every month of playing the game for a player having bought all three games.

Do your research before posting random idiotic crap like this in the future.

I played both, and while I had a great time in GW, I ultimately liked WoW better because of the extra pve content. Guild Wars is a game where the PvE is pretty much a tutorial for the real game, PvP. I don't really use games like this to fill my competitive needs, so I was always more interested in the PvE side of things.

I don't play either at the moment, but if I were to get back into mmos, I'd go back to WoW, simply because I am not a PvPer and Guild Wars PvE is definitely lacking. I am looking forward to Guild Wars 2 though.

I know this is an old topic, but just in case anyone else wants a perspective from someone who has played both games, here's one fwiw.

look dude you seem like a bit of an old timer so as a youth let me tell you a few of the basics in modern gaming. world of warcraft is a waste of space and money, the fact that you have to pay to play is seriously retarded also alot of the allicated servers are being shut down. WOW (world of warcraft) is definately a big no no, trust me i played it for 3 years and got to level 80, that foolish game realed me into paying them 7 pounds a month for a piece of crap game, thats alltogether for the 3 years 164 pounds, a total rip off, for that money you would think that the graphics would be impecable and the gameplay would be unrivaled but it was rivaled and totally anihalated by guild wars...there is no subscription fee unlike WOW, the graphics are excelent, more players and the both online and offline modes are excellent.look sorry bout the essay but one more bit of advice, because, for your sake will buy guild wars i seriously recomend buying guild wars factions firts, then guild wars eye of the north, then guild wars nightfall and then just plain guild wars, trust me they all run into each other, i wont tell you how but its cool. again sorry bout the essay but take my advice and ive now been playing guild wars for 5 years and im still not completed, ive got more money and im not bored like the rival WOW.......

ive tried both games and both has their specific advantages and disadvantages.... but both are very superb games!

... but right now im currently playing Atlantica Online... a F2P turn-based MMORPG. This game is recommended to me by friends and ive been playing it for a while... maybe you could give it a try if your into games having a long quest line just like in console RPGs...

Guild Wars has great graphics. Lots of builds due to the fact that the character depend on skills and yes, there are a lot of skills. You can also have a second profession for a character meaning that you have second profession along with ur primary profession. This mean u will have more skills. The maps are big and it very fun doing quest with people =). PVP is awesome, because u can play against other countries or other groups in ur country, and they have PVP event for different holiday. I enjoyed this game alot and never got tired of it.

I have no comments on WoW, because i never played it. =/. Im sure its good but just the monthly fee and the graphics.

Should try a demo of both games first.

GO GUILD WARS!!!

*** ing crazy.
Whenever I'm bored and wanna have some fun, instead of turning the comedy channel on I login to this game. I have a blast.

Ive played Wow, And Guild wars for a long time. Guild wars has very good graphics no doubt about it. Wow on the other hand has environments that make the game look really dark. On the other hand Wow has much better quest's and game play due to the many classes,Professions you can choose from. On top of, when you quip a item to your character, it doesnt look exactly the same as everyone else. Wow is more like a power leveling game, which you could only make the best of it when you hit lvl 80. On the other hand guild wars max lvl is 20 witch makes it more balanced for all gamers. Wow is a game for people that like spending ALOT of time running around doing quests all day. I find the PVP in wow a little boring since theirs so little builds you can go.
Guild wars on the other had has builds that you can customize yourself. (picking two classes primary/secondary) making anything possible. the pvp in guild wars is so much better than wow, with the down fall that you can only pvp in Arenas. In wow, you have to pay a certain amount of gold to "respec" or change your talent build, and it cost about 1000 gold for dual spec. In guild wars you can change your build at any outpost immediately. You can also choose if you want to make a normal pvE character that starts off at lvl 1, or you can make a PvP character that starts off at lvl 20, and gives you customization to whichever gear you want to use for your character. Guild wars also has more ingame events, like the dragon festival, anniversary, and much more, while Wow has a couple here and there. Wow allows you to use Add ons that help you with quest's and tracking while guild wars doesn't. Hands down, For People that like PvE and killing monsters with a BIg group of players for item drops. Id say Wow. but if your more of a PvPer like myself id choose Guild wars because of the Diffrent builds that you can come up with, and the counter builds that other people can come up with.

You can also buy 6 months of WoW time for $50 if u pay ahead.

Agree and disagree, but I keep reading on some game reviews and when is about talking GW people keep coming with WoW and fighting each other.

To be clear:

GW - is Diablo 2 based , but first person action. that mean if u want solo, go solo make party and enjoy, if u want help or fun with friends or comunity get a party and go in missions/quest/exploring whatever. Here you can see Diablo 2. Actualy the towns are "Lobby rooms" or "Market places".

WoW is another type of game - is real MMORPG, that doesnt mean GW is NOT. And I tell you why: GW is considered only RPG from some but is wrong. GW is RPG/First person and/or MMORPG whenever you ant. WoW doesnt have the option to solo instances, they force you to get a party, stay on LFG, sometimes hour/hours to get a decent party and if is not working you try another day, hope you better roll a tank/healer class to get a spot fast.

You cant compare those 2 games, but as an advice for who wanna go more in MMORPG action go to WoW after GW. GW is a nice start and depending on people some could really enjoy it and keep it playing aswell.

As votes:
Social:
GW - 5/10
WoW - 8/10 (if u are a GAL you can be 10/10, WoW is social based game, at least at cap level)

Party/raid:
cant compare but ..
GW 9/10
WoW - 4/10

Game content:
GW - 7/10
WoW - 7/10
it loos same but is different. In GW u get fast max lvl 20 then you start your real game. in WoW you get a bit hard max level then you start to spend your most time on Looking for Groups and Action House scanning, farming.

Questing/Missions:
GW - 7/10
WoW - 8/10

Graphic:
GW - 9/10
WoW - 6/10
But the graphic doesnt make the game, are lots of games amazing graphic but 20 min playable.

PvP:
GW - 9/10 - more based on skills that you have and use them in right time
WoW - 7/10 - more character control but tbh face-rolling system (not same ar Vanilla WoW)

Anyway, I`m playing WoW from 2005 and still and I enjoy it (even if Blizzard destroyed the game with so many easy-gain things), but also I love to play GW since 2006 without somebody to spam the chat with dirty words and insulting about class play or whatever.

In the end .. you cant compare those 2 game as two MMORPG base game engine, are totaly diferent. If you want u can compare WoW with other game like that, or compare Diablo 2 with Titan Quest or Sacred, but dont compare WoW with GW.

Is up to you either you wanna play GW or WoW, nobody can decide for you, take a good look on video websites in gameplay and see if is your type. :)

Cheers.

forgot to add:

But yes, I do play WoW a lot and I open GW sometimes, why? not because WoW is better or GW is worst, but because WoW is made in this way to keep you in the game a lot if you wanna play it. GW u just do you quest/mission and we can continue tomorrow without messing 24 more people from the raid.

I played both. Both are good games. But if you want to pay for a game, it should be your main game (I mean monthly fees not box) as it takes time to enjoy the best content. GW had a lot of content for what you pay. I stopped playing it because they said GW2 was in the making. And I stopped playing WOW because I prefer the 1-2 hour long RTS games (fits my RL schedule better).
Anyone know if they are going to make GW2? Or has it been nixed.

guildwars 2 trailer was realeased about ten days ago go onto youtube to check it out also there's a new wow expansion cataclysm if you are interested in that too.

To sum up all the arguing about wow vs Gw. In my opinion Gw is the better game. Not saying that wow is a bad game. I have been playing gw for 3+ yrs i tryed wow for 6 months. I think 6 months is long enough to have a decent opinion. I found that wow was a grind fest now saying that ppl like that kinda game. When it comes to pvp wow fails hard.
Guild wars on the other hand yes it is only 20 lvl cap and I can hit lvl 20 in about 4-6 hrs of game play cause I no where to go. But it does require having the 4th expansion. Guild wars does also have a greater skill set of 1200+ skills this allows more creative builds in pve and pvp. The armor as well is equal which i find better this means that players dont have to worry about facing a guy with better armor and weps and getting raped just cause of that. The armor in guild wars is balanced across all professions. This allows again pvp to be balanced and is now based on skill not equipment. this is a plus in my mind.

The 8 skill set of gw compared to wow is better and allows again greater creativity. The fact you can amke a pvp char in gw is GREAT!!! when it comes to pvp if you are tired lets say playing an ele and want ot move to a war or derv you can easily do so and have all the same skills unlocked. This helps when it comes to gvg and ha for easier team forming. Wow does have a bigger world when it comes to pve and the eploring factor is extremly fun but when you have to travel across the world it cna take up for 1 hr+ which is RLY annoying and a waste of time. Where guild wars you can instant travel accross multiple maps and areas in seconds. This allows you to meet up with friends alot faster. Also the pvp side of guild was has daily tournaments that anyone can enter and the end of month tournament with prizes for the top 32 guilds. Yes the economy of guild wars is screwy with items over prices and things like ectos prices jumping every months or so. The instances in wow are fun for ppl who like that kinda thing but again you have to grind to higherish lvls to beable to do the fun ones. Again try both games and see which one you perfer. The pve of wow is better the GW but the pvp in GW is much better and more competative with alot of different areanas and game types to pick from. I my self love ha gvg and ta back when it existed. Guild was does have skills up dates and things of that sort maybe not as much as wow but again wow does have the money to do that more. GW does not have monthly fees where wow does. This means you can play gw for how ever long you want and always stop playing go do something else then come backin a month or w/e without having to repay. GW 2 looks like it will be amazing and be a mix of wow pve with guild wars pvp.

to conclude guild wars has a bit more creativity with its builds and game play where wow is more grind fest but again ppl like the grind fest. I always find my self going back to guild wars over wow. Try both games and you can pick for your self.
