Hi there,

I am a 3D artist currently using the following system:

  • CPU: Intel i3-12100F
  • RAM: 16GB
  • GPU: ASUS TUF RTX 3060
I have three monitors connected and most of my motherboard's ports are occupied with devices such as a mouse, keyboard, external hard drive, USB speaker, and other peripherals. Occasionally (though rarely), my hard drive or mouse stops working.

Recently, I’ve been running multiple graphic-intensive applications simultaneously, such as Unreal Engine 5, Substance Painter, 3ds Max, and Blender. I’m concerned about whether my current motherboard can handle this workload reliably. I also worry that if it becomes overloaded, it might cause serious damage to other components.

My goal is to upgrade while spending as little as possible, but I’m willing to invest slightly more to avoid future issues. Based on my research, my CPU seems sufficient for Unreal Engine 5, so I’m currently considering upgrading only the motherboard. The Asus Prime B760M-R D4 has caught my attention.

Here are my questions:

  1. Do you think upgrading to the Asus Prime B760M-R D4 is a good choice?
  2. If you were in my position, would you stick with the current CPU, or is upgrading it necessary for running UE5 efficiently?
Thank you for your advice!

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

Where are you located, what is your preferred site for purchase and what is your budget for the upgrade?

1| Why are you swapping motherboards? For ports or for a possible processor upgrade?
2| If I'm swapping motherboards leaving the rest intact, then it's a waste of resources. I would rather invest in getting a significant oomph out of the platform, especially if the system is meant to pout food on my table or a roof over my head or both.

Might want to list all your USB devices hooked up to the motherboard/system.
