ever opened an apple computer?? i ve seen better MBs in of-the-shelf no-name pc's... none of their parts are premium.. its the look and the name.

[citation][nom]Zingam[/nom]", he was a known hacker who was greeted one morning by an FBI agent who held a gun to his face."--- yeah! he wasn't that good hacker at all obviously and stupid at that and made a mistake: "he was a known hacker"[/citation]

Yeah and you're probably sooooo pro too, huh?

As usual this website is showing how ignorant the average user is. I know (based on facts) that security through obscurity is not a solution in the long run. But and this is my biggest pet peeve, idiot users are actively demoting posts that are not negative on the whole apple subject. Facts are not checked en bashers get promoted immediately. This to me shows that the majority of the apple bashers have absolute shit for brains, just like we know it is the other way around. I am even temped to think that it again proves that Americans are utter retards, but i know for a fact that the majority of the populous are loudest and retarded in any country. Stop accepting your gut feelings as facts, please. Gut feelings are NEVER based on facts, but more on non-factual opinions. Yes i like Apple product, i don't care that someone hates Apple, i like linux end use Windows too. Those facts will tell you nothing about my stated facts, but are most likely to reason others to demote this message.

The marketshare argument actually does make Apple "more secure" in a statistical sense. The real cr/hacking threat does not come from a hacking contest held once a year, but rather from the denizens of Chinese, Brazilian, Russian, Indian, Korean, Vietnamese, script kiddies, etc trying to infiltrate PCs. Now granted, if and when Apple does start gaining market share, then they should start diverting resources toward the security aspect. But for now, it is safe to say that since they are less of a target, they are less likely to be hacked.

finally someone says what I have been saying for years! Speak the Truth Man

"We've only seen a scratching of the surface as far as Apple vulnerabilities because nobody cares to find them."

NO WAY!! You mean the reason why people don't hack into macs and retrieve the top secret information on fashion trend this summer is not because it's secure??? but..but...those new release handbags and shoes...those ARE what people care the most, right??

/sarcasm

Macs are not made from superior products. Look at the current PC technology and show me a Mac that has the same options, especially their laptops which are years behind. As far as that comment about virus on macs vs windows and no virus on macs, I don't have virus protection on any of my 6 windows machines and I have no viruses either. All you need to do is know where to go and what not to do. MACs do get virurs period but NO ONE CARES about the overpriced BS Mac. And MACs are PCs just as the TRS-80, Commodore-64, etc. People just are told a mac is not a PC BUT IT IS!!!!

[citation][nom]Computer Gawd[/nom]Really? I have 7 Macs. I have 1 PC desktop. I don't run virus protection on the Macs. I run AVG premium on my PC with windows 7 ultimate. Macs - no virusesPC - Many virusesI[/citation]

Having a mac automatically disqualifies you from being able to call yourself a computer guru or god or Computer Gawd. Look at the history for macs. They work created for artsy people who don't really know how to use a computer. Working in computer security with macs probably means you don't work at a company like IBM, CISCO Systems, or anyother high tech industry. Macs don't even come in a 1,2,3,or 4U configs and they sure don't make main frames.

[citation][nom]Computer Gawd[/nom]Really? I have 7 Macs. I have 1 PC desktop. I don't run virus protection on the Macs. I run AVG premium on my PC with windows 7 ultimate. Macs - no virusesPC - Many virusesI work in internet security, and our meetings security professionals lends of to agree to disagree. In our real world experiences it costs us more to secure the PCs than the Macs. Maybe it's a market share issue, or maybe this hacker is just good at hacking Macs. Or maybe this is way to get yourself in the news while Apple is making noise this month. This article is 50% rubbish.Second. This site is turning to crap.[/citation]
Right on the nails head.
I think the user posts and bad rating are from Mac haters and Nvidia haters too, are little kids. They probably hate Macs so much because their mom wouldn't buy one for them (price).
I still have yet to hear about one actual virus in the wild for OS X. To get infected on a Mac you have to install something or click on something. Like one the hackers favourites is, "you need this plug in for this page, download here".
Most Mac users are more computer savoy than your average Windose user to begin with. I see it all the time when I look around at Best Buy. When I talk to people looking at the Macs they know what they are doing unlike the PC area that the sales reps are filling them with all kinds of extra BS such as buy this to keep safe and they are lapping it up.
I will still keep my main PC (Acer Timeline Laptop) on Ubuntu. The Windows 7 that came with it is still on the restore disks that I can put back on if I want to sell it to the average Joe out there that probably never heard of Linux.

There are dumb users on both sides. There is no way to say ohhh yeah mac/pc users are smarter in general.

As for viruses, Who wants to attack the system with the lowest market share? If you are out to do this, you clearly go for what the majority of people use. There are a number of flaws that let a hacker execute code on mac systems.

There is no reason to think Apple did something special to be secure(being built on Unix DOES help, but its not the be all and end all of security).

There is also no reason for EVERY mac article to become a huge flame-fest

Better get my flame suite on....ready....

When a mac or apple device gets hit you never hear about for the same reason they seem to not get viruses. There aren't enough of them and no one really cares! PS I'm not a kid and you couldn't pay me to use a mac because I don't want to make an appointment at the mac cafe to get it fixed when I get a meaning error... oh heck you don't even know its an error all you get is a yellow triangle with a ! in the middle and then your mac crashes. :)

Right now java is threat more than anything else java in there wisdom decided to put in a new nifty feature that allows websites to install software on your pc or mac, they did not think anyone would use this for anything malicious, right now hackers are using this to install fake ant-virus programs and malware/keyloggers on users computers.
Can you say class action lawsuit.

[citation][nom]orionantares[/nom] Well I was remembering that earlier today when my iPod Touch crashed while trying to load up an app and then thinking about it and realizing that my Touch crashes more frequently than any of my Windows PCs.[/citation]
I've noticed that, too. Generally speaking, the majority of the PC crashes I have witnessed over the last 4 years have been related to GPU heat issues, not the OS or malware. Meanwhile, barely a day goes by where I don't have somebody lining up to complain about their iPhone acting up.

[citation][nom]sseyler[/nom]An FBI agent holding a gun to his face. Holy .[/citation]
I thought I was gonna be the only one to say something about that. I think he embellished a bit on that part. It's not as if he were hacking into an air traffic control tower and causing planes to crash. Then, not only would there be a gun in his face, but he wouldn't be co-founding any company, except maybe Cellmate-Proof Underwear, LLC.

Dream on hacker, your a fool in disquise. I owned Microsoft Pc's for over 15 years and have encountered numerous viruses and encountered memmory crashes and program lockups. Since i bought my Imac i don't have any of those problems anymore. I will never go back to that i am forever secure now with my Imac.

What a crock! The one thing Microsoft is better at is auditing. That's because they have so much experience trying to find all the holes they leave in their software. Apple, on the other hand, has always put their resources toward building the security into the software, not patching it after the fact.

This abstract reasoning to declare MS better at security falls completely apart when you see that Windows 7 was successfully attacked just days after its release, while no version of OS X has EVER been successfully attacked in the wild (those "hacking contests" are notoriously fixed).

I'll take real world experience over a statement from a felon any time.

To recap:
Windows 7 - viruses and trojans
OS X - still clean
Mark Maiffret - CRIMINAL

Wow. A guy who makes a living working with Microsoft claiming that Windows is more secure than Macs. I'm shocked!

It's true that Macs get hacked first at conventions after the hacker spent WEEKS trying to find ways to get in.

The facts, however, are simple: hundreds of thousands of pieces of malware for Windows computers in the wild. Malware in the wild for Macs: less than 5.

Some Microsoft's taxes: You MUST buy anti-malware software if you're going to communicate with any other computer. You MUST spend time every few days updating your anti-malware software.

In the book, "When Prophecy Fails," the author points out that when something they love is shown to be fraudulent, rather than abandoning it they support it more strongly, no matter how bad it is. This article is more than typical MS FUD. It, and so many of the comments, simply show that they will continue to drink the kool-aid and so that they don't feel like idiots, they want to convince you to drink it, too.

EPIC FAIL.

no, at one of the conventions (probably more than one, but this is the one I know about), the mac was hacked in two minutes. not weeks. even after the judges had confirmed that it was a legitimate hack the PC and the Linux were still standing.

oh, and you do not have to buy anti-malware, or update it daily. there are free ones that update automatically in the background with little or no performance impact. I use malwarebytes, which isn't so light on the system compared to these, but it is free.

Not sure what this guy really means. I work at computer shop that is constantly inundated with Microsoft OS computers that are critically infected to the point where the OS itself is damaged, often beyond repair other than a complete wipe and re-install. We work on Apple computers also, and never see compromised machines. Maybe Microsoft has certain software processes for a reason.
