next up Apple issues a statement there is no problem but will temporarily furnish a flexible ballistic absorbing battery encasement device (but is in no way just a rubber band that wraps around your battery) and reiterates the correct procedure for utilizing a MacBook ( arms length, preferably on a stable surface) will minimize if not eliminate any bodily harm that may occur from a event that will probably never happen. Apple will also show videos of it's own conducted research that shows that with incorrect usage the batteries for other laptop makers can explode too

[citation][nom]captaincharisma[/nom]yea hearing from the apple fanboys drinking the cool-aid is more entertaining[/citation]

Oh yes, and there is the stereotypical, and unoriginal, Apple-fan targeted insults. Wanna try and take my milk at lunch time too, Mr. Big Bad Internet tough guy? ;P

does this mean the TSA will no longer allow these on plains? You could see Al Queda bringing mac books straight through the security checkpoints and then using them as bombs to blow out windows and crash plains LMAO......but really though ......

I'm impressed, who would think to look for a security flaw in the firmware of a laptop battery. There have been stories about how a bios could be exploited, but this is quite creative.

That software he made... He's better hope Apple's lawyers don't have a field day and say he's tampering with intellectual proptery or some BS like that.

"This macbook will now self destruct in 10...9...8......."

This would be the ultimate hack, who said you can't do physical harm to someone with 0's and 1's.

Just when MAC users thought they had the upper hand it's revealed that they are their own flaw. Muhahaha

WTF is with firmware and controller chips for batteries? I am sure it is NOT to improve the efficiency of battery use for the end user. I bet it is more to protect Apple such that the end user cannot buy third party batteries. And even if there is some sort of software/firmaware component needed, I am sure the complexity doesn't warrant a live update.

They should make 100% of them explode the buyer deserves it for being so stupid and buying a mac and making apple billions.

I SAY every hacker should start making them explode asap.

[citation][nom]wildwell[/nom]+1This article zeros in on Apple laptops, but Apple doesn't make the batteries in any of their laptops. The same batteries can be found in laptops from many vendors. Here's hoping these experiments will influence the next generation of laptop batteries for Apple and others.[/citation]
They may not make the batteries, but they make the batteres non-removable. Let's be honest, Apple does this so people will come to them and pay a large sum of money to do something owners of other laptops can do in 5 seconds, replace the battery.

The reason this is a huge issue for Macbooks is because the owner can't simply pop out a flaw battery for a replacement, and that IS Apple's fault.

[citation][nom]the_krasno[/nom]According to XKCD an overclocked notebook battery with a full charge has the same explosion energy as a hand grenade. The more you know.[/citation]
[citation][nom]captaincharisma[/nom]get ready apple to get tons of orders for macbook's from al qaeda[/citation]:D

It'd be worth it just to see those stuck up hipsters sobbing on the plane curled up in the fetal position.

How lame, if airport security starts to ban Apple users from bringing their laptops on board, as it poses a potential threat to airline security. So after you got raped, they want to give you a cavity check, to make you feel better, hypothetically speaking... ;-)

[citation][nom]scuba dave[/nom]Why yes... It's most definitely Apple's fault if a hacker illegally accesses a computer, changes stuff, and explodes/bricks your battery. Just like it's the gas stations fault if a thief drops a lit cigarette in my gas tank, or if a bank robber shoots me with a guards gun while I'm at the bank... Gotta love the blind Apple hate.[/citation]
Strange because when a security flaw is found in a non apple os, apple users don't have this kind of response and say that the responsibility lies with the os developer and no the hacker.

right. its Microsoft's fault that windows uses .exe files that can include a virus instead of the person who made that file but when Apple has this combined with not being able to change that battery and its not apples fault at all lol

In next week's news:
"Charlie Miller found dead, facedown outside the front entrance to Apple's headquarters. Investigators find 17 small caliber bullet holes in his chest arranged in the shape of the Apple logo. Cupertino police officers have determined the death as 'the worst case of suicide they've ever seen.'"

[citation][nom]hardcore_gamer[/nom]Is there any password to make Job's head explode ?[/citation]I actually didn't think he'd last this long. He looked pretty sickly a couple years back.

I don't hate Apple though--I really respect their money earning prowess without really hurting anyone (in contrast to most energy or telecommunication companies). I do hate some things about the Apple consumers though--most notably people thinking they're superior or their computers are superior, merely because they spent more for their electronics to get a fruit symbol on it.
