Yeah at first I thought you were refering to 3.10 which is a schtoopid name since we already have a 3.1.

I just thought I'd try the 3.0 to see what would happen. Well nothing happened... err everything happened... err a FAQ it! Shouldn't bothered really, the release notes did mention with the 3.4 version is the first to list support for the R9600 series. But then again reading's never been my strong point! 😱 Although as you can tell by the Catalyst review the 3.2 drivers worked alright (ok a few glitches).

Took me about 1 hr to fix my system after trying to install the 3.0 drivers though. Learned my lesson I did..... well until the R42X/RV380 comes out and I wanna try them with the OLD 3Dmark cheats. :wink:

Speaking of 3.10's idiotic name...I wonder if 4.0 will come with the release of the next-gen cards, or if they continue down the road to, say, 3.12 or 3.13, etc. Why does ATi have to be so stupid about the naming??? They could potentially lose the dumber half (well, doesn't nVidia technically have the dumber half?) of their market share (well, not that much, especially if the performance is good). Oh well, it can't be as hectic at February 2nd when Scotty finally gets loose...supposedly.

Damn Rambus.

Flamey you excite me!

MMMmmmmmmm MAtrox!

What LCDs?

IBM? Samsung? Oooohhh I'm all a twitter! :wink:

Yeah it appears that the 4.0 drivers are being hed back for the next gen card.

But since the 3.0 were released in Jan.'03, perhaps tyhey are waiting for the calendar year to change. In whihc case they should make them the 4.A, 4.B, etc. If they plan on more than 10 a year (and there is talk of 12-16), then obviously they cause problems. But a number alpha combination gives them more options. Need a Fix, then the 4.b can become the 4.ba or the 4.b.1, etc.

Just a thought.

They might be saving them for the 4XX series, which would make sense, but they better get a good handle on things in that case. I would also like to see some advanced features.

Funny thing is that they all have f'ed up schemes.

The 50.XX isn't Forceware but the 52.XX is. OK, well you had more room with the 4X.XX why not make the 50.XX drivers the 49.XX series and then release the 52.14 (or.16) as the Forceware Drivers # 50.00. Seriously that's what happens when you put engineers in charge of the naming. Too much engineer input on naming crap, too little engineering input on the PR side.

I see even XGI running out of gaps between their lines on the Volari series.

Oh well, I don't care what they call the R42X/RV380 as long as they get it here quickly. And of course give it a coold box to replace the EVIL GOALIE! 😎

Alphanumeric combos would be crazy...but seemingly necessary I guess if they want to hit 12+ and leave people unconfused.

I wonder what some more advanced features could be for those drivers, other than that improved HydraVision and SurroundView (á la Matrox, hopefully). I'm really starting to get impatient for the next gen, if for no other reason than just to see the benchies (a good test makes my day).

nVidia has just been striking out recently. The entire FX series, although good (at least the 5700 and 5900s), are overachievers (I'm alluding to 32-bit precision), but don't have the power to be (alright, 59X0U might...). But Forceware is good, I'll admit that, however incorrectly numbered it is (does nVidia have any apparent logic behind their number system [maybe build numbers, or number picked out of a hat, but I can't see much else]??).

How is XGI already running out of gaps between their lines BEFORE launch?! F-ing idiots must be running that joint.

I kinda like the Evil Goalie, but maybe just because I'm a lacrosse goalie and I wish I were half as intimidating as that image is.

I WANT R420 TO FINALLY BE AVAILABLE!!!!

Damn Rambus.

Dell 18" FP1800 LCD's. Those things have my respect, they are really really good!
And Matrox is the bomb, I stayed after hours to play with the system I liked it so much!

The one and only "Monstrous BULLgarian!"

It's not a stupid name if you can release your death grip on the decimal system :)

3.1 = three point one
3.9 = three point nine
3.10 = three point ten
3.12 = three point twelve

Don't think of it as counting by tenths, because it isn't. I mean, why 3.1 after 3.0? Is it 3% better or something? The first number represents a major change, the second number represents a minor change.

Some day I'll be rich and famous for inventing a device that allows you to stab people in the face over the internet.

I understand it fine, I just think they could make it simpler. Some people simply wont understand 3.10 is an upgrade over 3.9.

Damn Rambus.
