Half Life internet connection problems!

i have half life v.1.0.0.9 and somehow when ever i try to autoupdate the game it will tell me that my internet connection is invalid. i would also get a counterstrike error like "client.dll" error. what is that? any explainations on how to solve this? im using road runner service on my cable modem.

download the latest patch, thats why you cant connect, I dont know if you are aware but a new patch came out recently, the hl patch is about 100 meg, the cs one about 80 if i remember right- you need both !
