Hard drive won't boot

I tried connecting a slave drive through the same IDE as my master. Slave had two slave settings, not knowing the difference I tried one at random. It wasn't detected so I tried the other one. Now hard drive won't boot. Am I likely to succeed booting up by connecting it through sata instead of ide? Or is it more likely that my motherboard is shot? Any ideas? Please help!

Run the slave drive as a master drive and see if it recognizes it. Then try setting it to slave. Sometimes that helps.
Does it boot without the slave drive?

no it won't boot with any drive in any setting

Did you change any settings in the bios when you were trying to set up the drives?

Not when I tried setting them up, only afterward when it wouldn't boot...
