harddrive trouble in optiplex gx620

i just bought an optiplex gx 620 without hdd i had a sata out of a compac presario sr2000 which kept blowing power supplies. when i put it in the OptiPlex gx620 all it does is click. bad hard drive? can I put an ide hard drive in this machine? how?

the motherboard has an ide socket for dvdrom and dvd rewrite will that work for ide drive? I just want to be sure the computer works before buying a new drive. how do I oto bios and set it normal?
