Hardware limitations for monitor upgrade

Still using an old 17" Viewsonic VX910, and seeing the 25" Hanns·G HZ251HPB for $189 on Newegg got me thinking about upgrading.

The Hanns G has a resolution of 1920 x 1080, and my older system is using an HD 4850 1GB and an Athlon 64 X2 4800+. Hoping to upgrade next year after the new sockets come out. I don't measure FPS, but get decent gaming performance with COD, Dragon Age, etc. so long as I don't max out the settings.

So, my concern is whether the 1920 x1080 resolution will be too much for my current system? Would I be better off with a monitor at a lower resolution, such as 1680 x 1050?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Just to let you know 1920 x 1080 resolution monitors existed when the HD 4850s were newest cards on the street and no one was really complaining about their performance at that resolution.
