Hey guys, i'm building a PC this December and i'm gonna get some of my parts on Black Friday. So should I go Haswell or Skylake? I'm thinking of getting a 6500 for Skylake but if i'm going Haswell, then it might be the 4590, 4690, or 4690k.

there is currently a 4790K for $299, it could go lower, and that means the 4690K is probably even cheaper. It really depends on the prices, in terms of performance you will not see much if any difference, as \both at top of the line, and thus are not really pushed in many games either way.
I frankly still do not think skylake is worth it.

How am I doing if I get a 4790K instead with $40 over budget?

What type of a PC do you have now?

Interested in trimming your budget?

Did you know that a Skylake i3 6100 actually beats out a Sandy Bridge Core i5 2500k in games?

Check it out.

Get one for $124 and pair it with a Z170 MSI Mortar MOBO for $119 and DDR 2666Mhz ram for $60 and you are good to go.

I am have been very impressed with mine. Much more responsive than I imagined.

That really made me LOL the i5 4690K processor is almost 25% faster than a 2500K...
Also they should of taken the FPS limit off then see the difference the 2500K makes and do you really think the i3 will match the performance of my 2500k overclocked at 4.8???
A i3 is a low budget gaming CPU and the more cores the games can utilize efficiently the more it fails.
You can make a you Tube video picking select circumstances to prove any point you wish to make.

The i7 is also a good processor with a higher turbo speed at stock settings. Their not a lot of difference in gaming performance but if you got into streaming or editing then it would be well worth it.

OP, grab a Xeon 1231v3 instead. Its a locked 4790k without the integrated graphics, and can run at 3.8 GHz. It games like a 4690k. BUT, while the processor is $230, no cooler is needed (stock does it) and can be put on a B85/H97 mobo, which cost about $70. Cheaper and better than (or close to) a 4690k, 4790k, 6500, 6600k. Not quite a 6700k, but close!
