I dream of a world where everyone uses the same brand of computers because of how ideal it is for most—if not, all—people. The ideal CPU, OS, file system, peripherals, programming language, markup languages, protocols, user software, UI, etc, all under one brand that represents the future and how comfortable it could be. This makes me depressed. I want nothing but this. Anyone?

In soviet Russia computer plays you...
Yeah sure, every company dreams of having 100% exclusivity and every one even honestly believes that what they do is the best possible thing to do for a PC.

The issue is that different people have different opinions on what is best so there will always be different ways to do things because people will insist on them.
What if "the best" means "the most wanted"? Like the average of all features and stuff.

Some people just like being different. Some people want to be unique and not do what everyone else does.

while everything being the same would probably make finding solutions to problems easier (unless everyone has them and the company is so big it can ignore what the users want).

everything being the same makes me think it would be very grey dull monotonous

If you want it all to be run by same company, get an Apple. Its the closest we have now.

Sounds like a boring world. Kind of like people who want everybody to be the same religion thinking it will solve all the problems

And everybody would be getting raped on price because there’s no competition. Again this is a nightmare not a dream

That's not a dream, but a nightmare.

That ok?

Different people have different needs.
Myself, my son, my wife. Completely different uses for a PC.

My son plays a lot of video games. Needs a very strong GPU.
I do a lot of CAD/photo/video/database work. Do not such a strong GPU. I do, however, need more RAM and large fast drive drive space.
My wifes use is mostly facebook and email. Has no need for a good GPU, nor a lot of RAM, nor a lot of drive space.

Why should each user pay for components and capabilities they will never ever use?

Also, by the very definition of the words..."average" is not "best".

Too bad, you all have exactly a 1050 Ti and an i7-4770K and 16 GB of RAM. Benevolent Emperor Unlimiter has decided that is what everyone needs, on average. Now pipe down and eat Food Supplement in your Housing Cube while watching State TV and be thankful you live in a perfect society.

Different needs can easily be fixed with different versions of the CPU.

I think it would be better if we all had surfboards like the silver surfer and whenever we wished for it it would just show up. And that’s about how realistic this dream is

Listing currently available components, what is your single ideal system?
That's the problem. My ideal system doesn't even exist yet. It's revolutionary. I have a plan, but not enough resources to implement it. That's why I don't even bother to document and finalize my designs, because I know I can't realize them.

Doesn't exist, because it can't exist. Needs differ.
I guarantee that what you need is not the same as what I need.

Given the 3 people I listed above, someone is going to be underpowered, or overpriced, or both.

Cars, phones, computers, houses...there is no One Size Fits All.

The problem is that the concept makes absolutely no sense. You haven't supplied a single plausible reason why any of this should be preferable to anyone.

Don't worry, though; we all have crazy ideas when we're young. With time, ambition can sometimes combine with experience to make actually good ideas.
