I want to buy an IBM 75GXP drive but I have read some people saying that this may be defective. I would like to know how your 75GXP drive has been running? Issues if any?

It worked yesterday!

I have never had a single problem with mine and it has been running 24 hours a day for six months. I don't know when the 60GXP is coming out but you may want to wait and get that one. I saw a review on one and it was a little faster than the 75GXP in just about every benchmark.

No problems here; 46.1GB, been in use for 5 months.

Think twice before buying a 75GXP. I am one of the unlucky owners. Until a couple of months ago, it was the best drive that I had ever owned.
You'll notice lots of posts popping up about the same type of problems with the GXP, especially the 45 gig one.. Like bad sectors developing, "scratching-type" noises, screeches when the drive is spinning up or down, etc.. My drive is beginning to develop bad sectors. I am using it connected to a Promise U100 controller. I know that's a popular controller too. IBM's website shows this controller to be compatible with their 75GXP models.
IBM is taking the position that it's a compatibility issue with certain U100 controllers, but that doesn't seem to be the case. The problems are showing up with a wide range of controllers.
Most of the postings that I've read are concerning the 45 and 30 gig models.
I'm happy that some of you own a good drive. I hope that they continue working that way.

I have several IBM 75GXP 30G drives since they first came out. Never had a problem with them. Fast, reliable, and blessedly quiet.
