Having issues unexpectedly when nothing has changed recently

Periodically my screen will go black then it comes back up. The frequency of the blackouts quicken until I have to shut down the PC and restart it. A restart doesn’t last long before the blackouts are back. On a shut down and start up it will go days between happening but it will happen. All drivers are up to date including the Bios. I’m running Win10 64bit Home Edition Premium and using Bitdefender Total Security 2017.
My system is:
CPU – AMD FX-8350
CPU Cooling fan – Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
MO – Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
Mem – DDR3 16GB
GPU – MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4GB
PSU – Corsair AX860
SSD – Samsung 840 EVO 500GB
HHD – WD1002FAEX Caviar Black 1TB
HHD – Seagate Barracuda 7200 500GB

Have you tried updating your GPU's drivers? It's a common error. If you have, try re-seating the GPU.

Yes the drivers are the most current. I haven't tried to re-seat the GPU because just like now everything is running fine no blackouts. But within a day or so it will start blacking out and then back on and it will continue with more frequent blackouts until I have to shutdown and start the PC.
