My friend bought a HD5970 from a guy on craigslist. Didn't come in a box, only had bubble wrap. I saw it and it doesn't look like any 5970 I have seen before.

Its the right size at least. The port config will depend on who the OEM is. I can't read the box or see whats on the card panel.

EDIT: actually isn't this more the size of a 5850? Whats it detect as?

lol, probably not the best Idea to treat a card like that.... he has his hand on the connections. Wow talk about suckage, getting the wrong card. I ordered a amd quadcore for my friend 655 I think it was, they sent me a 955.... I didn't complain. ;D

Well that is just terrible. He bought it for $650. I knew that something was up because of the size and since my friend isn't all that great with GPUs in general, he didn't know either. Anyways my friend picked up the card from the guy's house and he had his phone number. We called him 20 minutes ago, told him what was up and we basically told him that either he refunds or we take legal action. He said to meet up with him tomorrow and get this all sorted out.

Thanks a lot guys, you just did my buddy a huge favor.

yeh, the MRSP price of a 5970 is $600 - I suggest you wait till the price stablizes or get a 5850 or 5870 instead. (Or Xfire two 5850s, which performs equal to a 5970)

The cheapest 5850 goes for $290, while the cheapest 5870 goes for $380 from what I've seen.
