this is a carry over from my system building thread. the question though seems more fitting over here. i have saved $1000 for the GPU(s) in my next system and acknowledge that every day componens are being outdated. I have read up on the 7000 and Keplers on the proposed prices but the features are above my head. if i buy and build a system right now should i get the current series or should i wait out ivy bridge and grab one of the new GPUs as the timing is scheduled to roughly coincide (April 2012ish)?

I do gaming of all kinds AND do video production in the Adobe suite. Also I dont really get all the specifications like my knoledge may be perceived. I just do my research. Card(s) to be parked on an ASUS board of some ilk in a Thermaltake Level 10
GT.

Bad move.

The 5xxx series cards are definitely dated at this point. They are still great cards, but can't handle tessellation well. They are also not as power efficient. The 68xx series that came out are better all around, more efficient, more compatible, better scaling -more modern. Now we are a generation beyond that, and almost another one yet.

5970 now listed as DEACTIVATED as of this morning. Been following the item since this post. Just thought I would update the community.

It will be back they have deactivated that a few times already, I bought 1 after the deactivated it on black Friday to quadfire with older 5970, no issues great scaling (they have head plenty of time to fix) and also I had replaces my old 5970 for gtx590 with no performance increase, now I'm back to 5970's and I'm up 30plus percent

In my opinion single 5970 beats gtx 590, I personally have gotton better results and so have alot of test beds I've seen, u just need to consider power consumption and heat, I don't really care about power and heat is not much an issue in my full tower silverstone

Well that stinks -- because as deactivated I can't add it to a wishlist or autonotify! But I will set it as a homepage and revisit. As it stands I am planning to wait for the 7990/New Zealand -- probably crossfire that monster. And forget about upgrades until 2015.

probably amateurs, when you have a card like that you need to know how to tweak many settings and not just graphically, in the bios and all. Many people dont know how to do that, and actually if you read the reviews on new egg that people are leaving they are really good. the 4 out of 40 that are bad are most likely simple things that people are uneducated about. i bought one to trifire with my 5870 haven't received it yet but it should be here tomorrow and ill let you know.

I was talking about a few people on this board. I agree though, a few people having issues doesn't mean the card is bad. I just thought it was kind of odd that the people having issues here all bought the same card from Newegg for the reduced price.
