I bought an HD 6870 back in January for about $175. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161396
It's still the exact same price, even after all the new generation cards are out.
I was just browsing through Newegg thinking it would be great to have a GTX 660 or HD 7850 with 2GB VRAM because I play Crysis, Warhead, and Crysis 2 with mods that use 1000MB or more, even at 1440x900. (Crysis 2's best mod - MaldoHD 4.0 is going to release in October sometime, and it's said to be even more demanding than the 3.0 mod that I love so much.)
And I saw this card for $185: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161405
My jaw dropped because that is an amazing cooler and 2GB VRAM + muscle to run all my games at 50+fps on Ultra (vs. the 40+fps I'm getting now.)
Plus, GCN can handle tessellation and other DX11 features much better than my current card, and with MaldoHD 4.0 and Crysis 3 coming up, I'll need that. (Also, newer games are sucking up more and more VRAM...)
I know there's only about a 25% performance boost moving to that card, but if I can sell my current card at about $160, that's a heck of a boost for only $25 out of my pocket...

Thoughts?

(P.S. - my specs are in my signature)

I have the 7850, it's very nice but I recommend that you wait till the next generation. I've heard on numerous websites that the next 8850 will be as powerful as the gtx680 (just a rumor that I've heard) while still being around 200-300$ like the 7850 (I paid 300$ for it because I live in a hellhole of a country with 25% VAT)

My thoughts too. I was really revved up about that $25 price drop, but I think another year won't be too painful. The leaked specs on the HD 8850 look amazing, especially the pricetag.

I am pretty impressed with the GTX 660, too - despite that darn memory bus...
Maybe the GTX 760 will look better.
Maybe I'll also get a 1080p monitor for Xmas.
And an i5.

And a Boss 302...

why not just get another 6870 and run them in Crossfire
