I just have a quick question will waiting for the new Ivy bridge processors make a significant difference when using a HD 7970. I read someting about PCI 3 slots cant be used as efficiently with Sandy Bridge? BTW I am not computer savy and thanks for any info I am new to the forums.

This what I dont get. The PCI-E controller is on the cpu. Other side the gpu. Now what does the mobo do with controlling the packets?

Anyways I think he asked with the number of slots the card takes. Ivy bridge you will be fine with the card just don't go buy a 450+ card when using a below 1080p monitor.
What PSu do you have btw

I am buying a Rosewill CAPSTONE Series CAPSTONE-650 650W Continuous @ 50°C, 80 PLUS GOLD Certified, Single +12V Rail, ATX12V v2.31 / EPS12V v2.92, SLI Ready, CrossFire Ready, Active - PFC Power Supply. I believe I did not make my question clear. I simply wanted to know whether I should just go ahead and buy my computer components now or will waiting until IB comes out in May make a significant difference in gaming. From what I understand if I connect the HD7970 to the PCI 3.0 slot the current SB cpu's treat the slot as if it were a PCI 2.0 slot. Thanks for the response

OK, by the looks of the article and what you said I guess waiting for IB really is not worth the wait for gaming purposes. Waiting for IB is only worth it if I'm looking for a tad bit more CPU power and energy efficiency. Thanks for the reply
