I’ve been having some issues with running 2 ATI Radeon HD4850’s in crossfire. I was hoping someone over here might be able to help with some advice.
I had been running the cards fine with no issues using the out-of-the-box drivers from the CD that came with the cards, and then upgraded to ATI Catalyst™ 8.9 Display Driver for Windows Vista (64 bit), and ran with no issues for about a week. Then, one day, I launch Age of Conan and notice right away that there’s a big graphics problem – I’m seeing tiny vertical lines perfectly spaced (about a pixels length) filling the screen. My first impression was one of looking through a 1970’s television with bad reception. I assumed that my problem was perhaps one of the card’s chipsets was going bad. I disabled cross fire, and even removed each video card, one at a time, to test them individually. Each card ran the few 3D games just fine without the glitch. So, I’m thinking maybe one of the internal crossfire ribbon cables (or both) might suddenly be bad. I’ll have to purchase 2 new ones to test that theory out, but I wanted to post here in case someone has encountered this type of problem before and found it to be something simpler, such as a driver fix, etc.

Here’s my system:

AMD Phenom quad core 2.6 GHz
8 gigs DDR2 RAM
Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit operating system
1000W PSU

"Next up on our list of disadvantages is a strange display issue which plagued our reviewer kit from the beginning of testing to the end. That issue was rolling lines. Basically when we had the CrossFire graphics cards installed there was interference on the screen (CRT) which was most noticeable when on a white background. A faint set of lines could be seen rolling up the screen and it was most annoying. We put it down to one of the components being sensitive to electric interference however we couldn’t fix it. ATI assured us that they had received no other reports of this so hopefully it was just a one off."

Sounds like someone having a smililar issue...

had the same problem here with MSI 4830 card in cross fire. The problem is ATI overdrive. You can play with the GPU clock (I set mine to 700Mhz - stock is 585) but DO NOT TOUCH the memory clock. Stock is 900MHz - if i run it at 905 all hell breaks loose (green verical bars - full screen/ black screen and even the famous windows blue screen). You should try and disable ATI overdrive to see if the problems's gone... That worked for me :sarcastic:

I have an ATI 4570 with a CCC 13.1 and 8.97.100 legacy driver and it seems
to fit your description. Not a gamer..just watch sports with Haupauge Daptop/A converted
on my laptop. Only perceptible with live video.
