HDD and gaming

Hi,

When playing Arkham City, I noticed that when gliding through the city, there is some stuttering. Otherwise the gameplay is very smooth. I have an i5-3570k, HD 7950, 8GB RAM, am able to play other equally or even more demanding games at good fps, so I think my rig should be able to handle this game at 1080p.

I’ve read somewhere that the stuttering could be due to the streaming of textures when gliding through the city. I am gaming on a 7200 rpm HDD, would a SSD help with this issue? Or does it only help with the initial loading when the game starts?

An SSD should only help when the game starts. I've had the same issue with the stuttering. The problem is much less prominent in directx9 than in directx11.

I am playing the game in Directx 9. Smooth framerate except when sometimes gliding, especially entering a new area (say, from Park Row to the Bowery).

Are you playing this on HDD or SSD?

I boot off an ssd, but the game is on an hdd, as is my swap file. I've also noticed stuttering in directx9, but it has improved majorly with the updates since it was first released. I always assumed it was bad programming, but I could be wrong.

An ssd is your best choice when it coems to high demand gamign and rendering excpecially fro batman , farcry, etc.
