Hello Guys, this is my first time at any forum so hopefully I am not doing anything wrong and doing this right.

My Build

NZXT 340 Elite Case
X99 Deluxe II Motherboard
128 GB Dominator Platinum RAM 3466MHz
2 EVGA Geforce GTX 1080 FTW's in SLI
x61 Kraken Water Cooler
Samsung SSD 1TB (Boot Drive)
Western Digital Black HDD 5TB Secondary Drive (Storage, games etc) (THE CULPRIT)
850w P2 EVGA PSU
Elgato HD60 Pro Capture Card
Windows 10 Pro (Not activated yet)

and soon adding an NZXT hue+ and USB Hub extension to add the rest of the usb 2.0 stuff for the front panel of the case because currently that usb internal connecter is taken up by the X61 Kraken

I have a situation with my PC it is brand new just built it and noticed a few things.

At first PC was not reading the full memory and only getting 96GB asked around re positioned the sticks and now they work well all 128 GB reading

Now I noticed the HDD is having a similar issue shows up randomly in bios and PC on reboots. (Currently on latest BIOS for my MOBO)

Now I don't want to return anything (unless I have to) because I have a lot of work and the PC is running fine but I also am going crazy because having to restart the computer to get lucky and see the drive is slowing down the process.

I have partitioned the drive earlier and run it through various tests and it passed all even the Western Digital and it passed all.

I first noticed this problem when it said "No CD in drive D" something like that. My case has no optical drive!

I had then installed a 8TB back drive and it took place of drive D where the 5TB originally was.

So I disconnected the 8TB thinking that was the problem. Nope

I then thought it was a PSU problem (not enough power to the HDD so it decides to sit it out and all the others turn on) I highly doubt that because the same wire and PSU is running power to the SSD.

My SSD is also showing as P4 on bios and Drive 1

When the HDD finally shows up it takes position of Drive 0.

I don't know what to do to fix this. I reconnected the wires and but haven't changed ports yet so let leave that solution out before I try it and see if it can be fixed without having to open it up.

I also read all the forums here of similar issues but nothing worked for me. I'll be so happy if this is fixed because this is stressing me out and already been out of work for 2 months with a death in the family and just want to get back to work to get my mind off things.

I am wondering if it is maybe a problem with drivers? Motherboard? Ports? Should I get a 1000W PSU? Exchange the HDD? Should I reinstall Windows 10 Pro?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Hey there again, @Shenmue!

I'd advise you to backup the data from the 8 TB external HDD and check how it will behave if it's connected to another working PC around you. If it influences the devices and hardware connected there, then it's probably a good idea to test its health and SMART status using the brand-specific diagnostic utility from the manufacturer's official website.

I'd also recommend you consult with a professional before you upgrade to a more powerful PSU. Make sure that it's compatible with all the other components in your rig and that it won't be too much for the system. If it's really the mobo that is the source of the issue, I'm afraid that changing the PSU won't do you much good either.

Welcome to the community, @Shenmue!

I'm sorry to hear about your issues with the WD Black HDD. However, it does sound like there is most probably something wrong with the connection to the drive. 🙁 This means that you will definitely need to check how it would get recognized by the system if you swap the SATA port on the mobo as well as the SATA cable itself that is connecting the drive. If you have access to another PC, you could also try connecting the WD Black there to see how it will behave.

If you suspect something wrong with the drivers, make sure you have manually installed the latest SATA controller & chipset drivers straight from the motherboard manufacturer's official website. While on it, check if you have the latest BIOS version installed as well.

Either way, I'd strongly recommend you backup all your data from the PC somewhere off-site before you proceed with the troubleshooting. Better safe than sorry, right? :)

Keep me posted with the troubleshooting & good luck!

Hey thanks for the reply. I have the latest BIOS and I think I have the latest SATA and Chipset drivers. Because I went through downloading those earlier. Everything is backed up luckily.

I noticed when the HDD is picked up and booting the boot actually takes a little longer than usual. The SATA cable is the same cable connected to the SSD and the SSD works fine so I don't think it might be that. I re-positioned the wires but still the same thing.

Should the first thing I do is exchange the WD from where I bought it? That could be a good first thing to rule out. I bought this comp recently so everything is fresh and new.

I do have another computer I was thinking of taking out the HDD on that one and putting in the new pc to see if the same thing happens. Then try the HDD on the old pc.

I will keep you updated. By the way the HDD got picked up again as we speak and I uninstalled it from the device manager and now gonna work from there. Hopefully it resets it in some way.

Hey there again, @Shenmue!

If the issue is still present with the WD Black after swapping of the ports and the SATA cables and trying it out on the new PC, then I'd definitely consider replacing it. Since it's relatively new, you shouldn't face any issues RMA-ing the WD Black, this particular model comes with a 5-year limited warranty, so it might also be a good idea to check its warranty status on our website and determine its authenticity.

Let me know if you encounter further issues with it, though!

Anyway to test the mobo? Because it did have an issue reading all ram sticks at first.
It's not a power supply issue?

Can it also be that my main boot rive is not Disk 0 in device manager but disk 1
The 5TB HDD is seen as Drive 0 when it is booted and when it isn't the SSD is seen as DIsk 0

Can they be rivaling to start the computer or it is mixing them up as a primary and secondary?

In this case, @Shenmue, I'd advise you to follow the steps listed in this TH tutorial about how to benchmark the whole system. This will easily help you determine what could be the faulty hardware. Unfortunately, at this point it could be anything.

I'm not sure if you tried swapping the places of the SSD & the HDD and also their SATA cables, but I'd definitely give it a shot before going into a more extensive troubleshooting mode.

Just remember to backup your files before you tamper with the hardware components, this is the surest way to avoid any potential data loss as I already mentioned. :)

Hope it helps. Good luck!

My computer is unable to benchmark. Just won't do it for some reason

This sounds odd, @Shenmue. 🙁 What do you mean by it's not able to benchmark? What are the troubleshooting steps you have taken so far? I'd recommend you consider taking to a professional PC repair service shot nearby then. The guys there should be able to perform full diagnostics on the system and let you know what is the issue with the computer. This will also save you a lot of headaches performing the troubleshooting by yourself.

Well I have found out my issue it is the USB. I have an external storage 8TB Seagate HD (comes with our power supply) and when I unplug it my 5TB internal HDD shows up normally when resetting and all that.

So what is the problem? I cannot send the motherboard for a new one as it is too late. So I'm thinking it has to be the power supply.

When I connect a new usb camera logitech c922 my computer spazzes out and all usb connections keeps Disappearing and reconnecting until I remove the webcam.

The camera seems fine and the old webcam works like a charm I am thinking it is the power current they pull.

I am getting a 1000 watt power supply because I am getting a good feeling that the 850w ain't cutting it. If that doesn't work...then I am pretty much assed out with a new mother board that doesn't even work properly.
