HDD making strange noise.

Hey Everyone,

I don't know any other way to put it, I broke my school laptop, I dropped it and now the HDD is stuffed, the noise sounded familiar so I looked through my pile of dead hard drives and found this one. I took the top off and its basically the same noise. Anyone got any ideas on what could be not working? (I know taking the top off kills it from dust, but this hard drive was of no use to me. The hard drive in the video is NOT the one from school.)

Was the laptop given by the school? You might as well see how much it costs to fix it from them. While I have not heard the sound before, it sounds like the deivce that moves the arm is damaged.

Thanks for the reply, Yes the laptop was provided, but I need an assignment off of it
so I can A: Attempt to fix it myself B: Send it to a recovery place. But to seeing if Im going to go with B I have to know whats wrong with the drive. But thank you for your reply

HAve you talked to the school about it? They will usually fix it for free

Im talking to them tomorrow about it, but to be honest the IT people at my school are the kind of people of if it has a scratch in it might as well replace it. They'll probably just replace the hard drive but I need work off of the hard drive.

I would skip the IT guy and go to an admin. They usually will be able to explain what you need to the IT so they actually do what you need. This is based of first hand experiences.
