HDD to SSD

People always say that I need to get a HDD instead of a ssd because it's more worth it.
But if I place my OS onto the Hard drive and get ssd later, won't I have to purchase another copy of Windows ?
Can you transfer the OS from HDD to a newly installed ssd?

Yes you can. Windows license checks mobo and something along those lines, not the hard drive.

Even better, you can use some free software to transfer the OS to the SSD. And for crying out loud, ignore your friend who says that 20 year old technology is better than new technology. SSDs are solid, reliable and very fast. Just start with an SSD with a HDD as secondary bulk storage.

Storage-wise, HDDs are a better bang for the buck at the moment. Speed-wise, it's the contrary. For OS installation, SSD is a much better solution. No issues at all - all you need to do is perform a "clone" of your HDD system partition to an SSD, using any of the available programs for that purpose (acronis, easeus todo backup, etc.)

Should I get a 120GB SSD first than add a HDD later? I'm just playing csgo btw

120GB is fine for OS and a game or two. However, plan ahead if you can - get 250GB model now and thank me later 😉 120GB won't be usable for game installations for long, since some games tend to be over 60GB today.

Just as a quick note, the Adata SP550s were just released and you can get a 480GB version for somewhere around $120.00 brand new. That is a sick price for a half TB of SSD based speedy goodness.

yeah the gaming issue is getting to be redonkulous. just 2 years ago most people could comfortably get by with 64 or 128 gig SSD's and install windows, office, and a game or two as a daily driver. These days, even more mundane games are bloating up to th 20 gigabyte level, and AAA titles are pushing on 60 gigs. So get all the space you can reasonably afford in your SSD.
