Question Damaged HDMI cable has led to more problems ?

Hi everyone
I have a computer with:

MBD: MSI X570-A Pro
GPU: MSI Radeon RX 570 Armor 8G OC
OS: Windows 10
CPU: AMD - Ryzen 7 3700X
Hard drive: SABRENT M.2 NVMe SSD 500GB with Heatsink Gen 4, Internal Solid State drive 5000 MB/s
Memory: Corsair VENGEANCE RGB PRO DDR4 RAM 32GB (2x16GB) 3600MHz CL18 AMD Ryzen iCUE
Power supply: CORSAIR - CX750 ATX PSU - 750 W

On inserting the HDMI cable, it badly damaged the end which plugs in to the graphics card, and it shorted out.
I took the graphics card out and tried the damaged cable after trying to fix it into the motherboard's own HDMI port.

Now, as well as not having any graphics, the computer will not recognize the mouse or keyboard, and it seems to stay in a powered-on state with everything lit up, but I can only switch it off by holding in the power button in for around 5 seconds

The only thing Ive tried is to power on holding the flash bios button, but I don't know what else to try.
Any advice would be very much appreciated

Which CPU? most likely your CPU doesn´t provide an integrated GPU, so the motherboard´s HDMI port won´t get a video signal
placing a new GPU into the PCIe port should work

include your complete system specs with the make & model of ALL components.

where was the this HDMI cable obtained?

normally this wouldn't affect the entire card, just the specific port.
what exactly has lead you to believe that the entire card has "shorted out"?

tried the damaged cable...Apart from not having any graphics, the computer now when switched on, will not recognize the mouse or the keyboard, and seems to stay in a powered on state

if this is some sort of odd dangerous cable, it's possible that you have damaged the entire board by trying to reuse it through the iGPU.

including your complete system specs will help to diagnose.

this "Flash BIOS" button has nothing to do with powering the system.
so it wouldn't have the affect you may have been hoping for.

The HDMI cable came with a sony monitor at the time. it was fitting loose within the slot for it on the graphic card, and I tried to make it fit more securely but ended up damaging the cable, and thats what shorted the cable

Ive now tested the graphics card with a new cable on a different pc and it works fine. so the problem now has to be the mother board

Is there anything I can try with the mother board to somehow reset it?

Also, do you know, can the PCI 3 be used as well for graphics card on the MSI X570-A Pro?

I have downloaded / renamed to MSI.ROM / and installed around 6 different versions of the BIOS through the USB port and bios flash button at the back of pc, but to no avail, computer will still not respond, but all lights from cpu and memory are working and fans are spinning

However, I have the led debug light for CPU not recognized or faulty showing on the motherboard

Is it likely I have somehow damaged the CPU? Or could it be the board?

Any further advice would be very much appreciated

you should only use the latest provided.
going through multiple installs in different orders and flashbacks can often lead to corrupt data.

you may need to also test the CPU before committing to any single fault.

almost all of the CX series are lower quality units.
when was it purchased?

i really wouldn't be surprised if this unit has contributed to issues you are currently facing.

I purchase a second hand Asus Prime X570-P today. I will try the CPU in that one. I'm a little concerned with security so do you think I should flash the bios on it first before I do anything else?

afraid there is spyware built-in to the board or something?

i'd be more worried that this board was being sold for some reason like possibly attributing to damage of other components.

i would say that new is always better than used, due to the warranty and no potential owner damage being carried over to your own system.

if you are just considering for testing purposes than i would just use a friend's system to test all of my own components.
if you don't have friends, family, co-workers, etc with a compatible system then have a local shop do it.

You were right, the second hand board would not even power up, one led lit on the boards small fan when plugged in to mains, but that was it! So much for being on a budget! but I will never buy second hand again!

I have tested on a friends computer today the CPU and it is working fine, so the problem has to be the motherboard/power supply

Anyways, I have bought a new CPU, because I need a faster system as ill be working with graphics: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, and just need the rest of it to build a new computer

To completely rule out the power supply, I will buy a new one, and if the current one turns out to be ok, ill either keep as a spare or get a cheap board for the Ryzen 7 processor, and have a second pc, Or maybe if I can get the current board to work?? (still has the same problem, with fans and lights running but no graphics/mouse/keyboard, ect working, and need to hold the power button for around 5 seconds to power off)

What I would like to know if you could advise, in your opinion, what is the best/fastest mother board to use with this processor? Or, if need be should I just get another MSI X570-A Pro? at least then, it should not mess up any settings that I already have

As you pointed out earlier that my current power supply is not that good, could you also recommend a good one/brand?

Also, to keep costs down, would you think that my current memory and graphics card will be ok to use with this?

i would definitely be looking into a modern GPU, at least something from the last few years with more VRAM.

RAM should be fine.

could you also recommend a good one/brand?

don't have any idea where you may be located, budget, or what deals may be available at any given time.

Hi, I will consider getting a new more up to date GPU, but just out of desperation to get my pc back up and running, I decided to get the same board - MSI x570-a pro, but I am now reading that this board is not up to the task of running a AMD Ryzen 9 5950x, and in particular, its VRM, so I am still yet to install it and started looking for a better board. and it seems the x570 boards in general are simply very hard to find, and dont know why, when B550's are not? So because of this, I started looking at the B550 boards to use with my new CPU

I am really struggling to know what to do, and if by getting a B550 board I would be just as good keeping and using the new MSI x570-a pro?
Any advice on this would be much appreciated

you can just look at it and see it has subpar VRM cooling/heatsinks.
what type of build quality it may have underneath, i would guess also lower standard.

their "Pro" series are usually of lower quality than others like their "MPG" series.
i've seen a few praising their MAG Tomahawk X570.

if by getting a B550 board I would be just as good keeping and using the new MSI x570-a pro

some of their B550 boards are also of course higher quality, and some are lower.

when searching a retail site for X570 boards don't limit yourself to a single manufacturer.
AsRock, ASUS, etc all have some good options out there.
