Go into the Nvidia or Catalyst Control panel and try seeing if you can set the resolution manually. This user said something about changing a setting related to the EDID; see if you can find that settings:

* Which video card brand is on the computer? AMD, Nvidia, or Intel?
* Does either the monitor or the two projectors support a digital connection (DVI, HDMI, or Displayport)?
* Perhaps it won't matter if you use the HDMI to VGA on the cheap monitor (it's probably a low resolution anyways?)... then just us the VGA for the projectors like they are now?
Assuming you're talking about them,
I haven't gone much into the specifics of their setup (I looked at it once), but I'll be there tomorrow (Tues 04-21-14) and Wednesday.
I think they have Windows XP, which I think is fading quickly.
They probably do. But they only have a VGA switcher, so they can't use HDMI.
Their monitor is a tiny 4:3 monitor.
