I currently can run VGA from my PC to my monitor at 1920x1200 . But when I use an HDMI to VGA adapter, I can only go up to 1680x1050. It looks terrible.

HDMI to DVI cable works fine 1920x1200
VGA cable works fine 1920x1200
The issue is this:

From PC
Male HDMI to Female VGA Adapter --->Seperate Male VGA Cable--->Monitor VGA Input

I only have up to 1680x1050. It's all blurry. The "recommended" res is 1024x768. It is a horrible 4:3 ratio. Let me just say, 4:3 is one of the worst and ugliest things ever. Especially on a 16:10 monitor.

This adapter is not just for my computer.

At my new church (I recently started attending), their youth room has a small computer for showing words and slides and stuff. Right now, that computer is being used in a strange way. They have a splitter. The PC has HDMI and VGA out. They are going out the VGA with a splitter. One end goes to their tiny monitor, and the other goes to two projectors. Meaning that they only have one screen, if that makes sense. Whatever they do, will be shown on the projectors - like when they switch songs and other stuff, it is very distracting. I got this HDMI adapter to VGA to help them out so that they could do what they needed on one screen, and have the extended display for PowerPoint output. VGA for their tiny monitor, and HDMI to VGA for their switcher to the projectors.

It is working strangely and ugly on my screen. I won't have a lot of time to fix the issue tomorrow if something similar or the same happens.

But I do want to figure out why it's messed up on my PC also.

Assuming you're talking about them,
I haven't gone much into the specifics of their setup (I looked at it once), but I'll be there tomorrow (Tues 04-22-14) and Wednesday.

I think they have Windows XP, which I think is fading quickly. Not sure about what card they are using.
They probably do. But they only have a VGA switcher, so they can't use HDMI.
Their monitor is a tiny 4:3 monitor.

That would probably work.

But I still haven't learned anything about why it isn't working on my monitor.
