Hello

We have two users on the same PC. When I switch user (not sign off), from user A to user B, HDR is messed up. I have to turn it off and on again. When I change back from User B to User A , the same thing happens.

Sometimes HDR turns off altogether.

4x MS tech support calls
11x MS email thread
2x Forum posts

Nobody could help.

Fresh Win10
Acer Predator XB273KP Monitor
nVidia 2080ti and then 3090 MSI GPU

Any ideas?

I just got this new PC but it was the same as the previous.

Up to date drivers.

Yes, both users have HDR on.

the behaviour was so close it makes me wonder if monitor still isn't the cause but i can't find anything to back that idea up.

So if its windows... i wonder if its the roaming user profiles.

would need to do that on both accounts, just to test if it is cause. MS has a copy of settings on servers in case you logon anywhere else and the server copy may not have hdr turned on.

The case is that most of the times HDR does not turn off but the settings become broken. So HDR is turned on, but the picture is too dark. After I turn it off and on again, picture is normal.

what are you turning off? Entire PC? or just monitor?

if windows settings are still on and its the picture that is wrong, I am still wondering if its the monitor.

I am going to move question into displays as maybe some other people will know answer

Okay then... moved thread back to win 10.

I know win 10 turns the feature on if it recognises monitor supports hdr. From this it shows it relies on GPU being able to output the signal and it must have a database that shows what model monitors support it - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...ndows-10-192f362e-1245-e14d-3d3f-4b3fc606b80f

So I don't know how much of this is windows or the Nvidia drivers.

So it doesn't happen on logon, only switching users?

I log in to User A. I work. Then SWITCH users to User B. HDR is too dark, needs to be turned off and on again. Then I Log off / Switch User to User A, the same thing happens.

what do you turn off - answer -
The setting for HDR. I am turning it off and on again.

Sometimes HDR turns off altogether.

just thinking it loud :)

why is it malfunctioning on switching users but not on logon. whats the difference? i don't expect you to answer this, I am just wondering out loud.

maybe you should ask on Nvidia forums and see if anyone there has an idea.

what version of win 10 are you on?

right click start
choose run...
type winver
and press enter
current is 20H2

  • Updates an issue that might display 4K high dynamic range (HDR) content darker than expected when you configure certain non-HDR systems for HDR Streaming.
not exactly the same

if you on 20h2 its not relevant. only other hdr related problems are in Insiders builds.

No idea. It only turns off completely like maybe once in 20 occasions.

Yes. Two PC's two monitors, different Windows 10 installations.
Looked at this ones more and the only thing in common are probably the latest drivers ..... well i guess, would still see if it's a setting in there or try older drivers with a clean install of them.

It seems an older problem as well,
maybe look at more threads at the Nvidia forum as well?
