Hello,

Windows Support failed to answer.
Windows forums as well.

At this point, there's nobody who can give me a solution, and I refuse to believe it's a problem only I have.

Windows 10 Pro
Build 19042

Problem:

My PC has two users and runs Windows 10.

When User 1 is logged in, and I switch to User 2, all good.
When I switch from User 2 (switch with a logout or just plain switch), User 1's Windows session becomes dark. HDR must be turned off and on again.
When I switch from User 1 to User 2, the dame, dark, and HDR must be switched off and on again.

This continues like this.

I have this problem since 2019; since then, the system, the GPU, the monitor (changed), and the Windows were reinstalled/replaced. Nothing helped.

Any tips are appreciated.

i see i tried to help with this before - https://forums.tomshardware.com/thr...witching-between-users-on-windows-10.3664556/

so it also doesn't matter what user so I can't blame it on possibly being a bad user profile. Probably.

Do you use these users on any other devices? It could be the sync settings if you are (settings/Accounts/Sync your settings - used for saving logon info of users so it remembers desktop settings etc). Applies them when you logon. Just a thought :)

sync settings messed me up before, I swapped from a 1080p screen to 4k but for a few weeks it would swap desktop wallpaper to 1080p on startup, took me a while to work that out. Just turn it off and see if it makes any...

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and Window 10 information: edition, version).

This:

"When I switch from User 1 to User 2, the dame, dark, and HDR must be switched off and on again."

What is meant by "dame" and "dark"? What do you do to switch them?

Dynamic ?

Do both User 1 and User 2 have identical configurations? Ease of access, Personalizations, etc..

Does the following Nvidia link relate to the HDR problems being experienced?

https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/ans...iderations-for-playing-games-with-hdr-enabled

It looks like the contrast has been turned down. Or brightness. I access the Display Settings and turn HDR on and off.

Yes, both users have identical settings.

It does not relate and some stuff I even tried.

In the "Type here to search" box type Display Color Calibration.

Where you want to end up is at the "Welcome to Display Color Calibration".

Follow the instructions and determine if the problem can be resolved therein. Be sure to note original settings and remember to save changes that you do make before exiting the calibration process.

Also: in "Ease of Access" there are a number of end user configuration settings available. Take a look there.

Thank you for these suggestions. I spent some time playing around with them, but the results are the same and 100% replicable.

Wondering about power plans: Are they identical? Likewise for screen savers/sleep etc..

= = = =

2019 = legacy problem.

Are you familiar with Powershell?

If so, there is a way to take a closer look at the Video Controller settings.

The idea being to compare between User 1 and User 2.

The cmdlet is:

Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_VideoController

All that is necessary is to copy the preceeding line and paste after the PS> prompt then hit ENTER

The cmdlet results may be a bit lengthy once your have the results for both users look for any differences.

You may need to go through the process twice. First and logging in as User1 then switch to User 2.

Second round being an initial login as User2 then the switch to User1.

Start by just getting comfortable with the process. At some point you may need to post the results. No necessary at this point in time.

At least scan the the results and some obvious difference may be discovered.

And it is possible to send the results to a printer. Hardcopy will make further comparisons easier.

Yes, I tried this as well, does not work. I tried so many things I forgot already :)
