Headset USB male connecter replacement

Long story short I need to replace the male connector on a headset I got. Can I just use any "old" male USB connector or does it need to be one from a headset? (assuming I can replace it at all)

If it helps the headset is a Razer Kraken USB.

There are only 4 wires inside USB 2.0 and the really important ones to get right are color coded. The two middle data wires can be switched with no damage--just won't work until you reverse them. Mixing up the outer wires, especially applying 5v from the red wire to where it doesn't belong could destroy both the USB port and the headset.

You can take this opportunity to extend the wire to the maximum of 16' for USB. Keep in mind this length limit includes any internal wiring to the front panel, which is why most USB extension cords are shorter than 15'

With only 4 wires to splice, this can be done without even soldering if you don't mind a little box in the middle of the wire:
