Question Heavy FPS fluctuations while gaming

Hi all, first time posting so please be patient 😀

My system is an HP Omen laptop running Windows 10.

• GTX 965M
• 12gb RAM
• i7-6700HQ @ 2.60GHz

I've been experiencing some drastic FPS issues recently when gaming. It's happening with every game I usually play (Overwatch, WoW, Diablo III, GMod, CS:GO, recently TemTem). What happens is when I start a game, the fps is normal in the menus. Once I get in game, the FPS starts to fluctuate. I'll be at 68 FPS for 5 seconds, then down to 24 FPS for 5 seconds, & it just continues like that.
One thing I've noticed is that when I check my task manager's graphs for my CPU performance is that it dips with the FPS drops. I also seriously don't think I'm being temperature throttled (I considered it since it IS a laptop) because this issue happens at any temperature. The computer could be shut down for several hours & still have the issue when I launch a game 5 mins after booting up.

If anyone wants more info, I'll be actively watching this thread. Any input is heavily appreciated, thanks so much!

Also look in Resource Monitor.

Any differences if the laptop is being directly powered or on battery?

Compare laptop's specs to the specs recommended by the games you are playing.
