the specs for that PSU only give 384W total (19A/12V rail) on the 12V rails, but from the looks of it, when you apply any load to the video card, it gives out when the 6870 asks for only 150W. have you tried another psu? hec psu's are cheap and not very good. a bad psu will destroy/burn/maim the rest of your components. check this list out, they update it on a regular basis:

here's a couple to get you started:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256063 (450W, but will get the job done)
These are all quality psu's and cost $50-70 (after mir, if applicable).

Buy a real power supply. Stick to Antec, Corsair, Seasonic, or XFX.

A Corsair CX430 V2, which is commonly $16 after rebate + coupon, will power that system no problem. It's less power, but it's reliable.

There's a chance it's not your PSU. Have you reinstalled updated (non-Beta) graphics drivers? Have you ran Seatools to test your HDD? Is your system overclocked anywhere? Run Memtest86+ to test your RAM (4 cycles should do).

no were not,but a lot of people dont realize just how important a PSU really is,I have seen more people on forums having a subpar psu and having a numerous amount of issues only to finally fix it with a good name brand proper wattage psu.for me personaly,I spend minimum 15% of my build on a psu, currently I'm running a 1200W corsair.

and googling HEC,well...there is just nothing really about it.its like putting 20 watts to a 100 watt light bulb, sure it lites, but it is dim....

While I agree on the importance of the PSU (see my first couple posts), I was just a bit surprised with the quick requests to close the thread. I looked up his PSU and it should deliver adequate power (if it's working correctly, that is): 2 +12V rails @ 19A, the issue would be quick dips on either rail (assuming there are actually 2 separate ones). Anyhow, I run Corsairs and Antecs myself.

1200W? Well that's ridiculous overkill if you're running less than dual heavily-overclocked GTX 480 on an X58 system. And even then, you'll probably only hit 750W max draw. The point being that if your power usage isn't between 20% and 80%, your efficiency really goes down. Considering you probably idle at 200W (if it's an X58 only), it can't be very efficient.

LOL,I checked what you were running, glad there good quality ones.as for the Op's PSU,i doubt it's even coming close to 19A.

I dont believe the response"PSU... end thread" actually meant close the thread,it was just a comment on how the poster of it felt.

Actually,if you look at my config, using CPUID HW monitor,I'm idling at avg 300 watts, while playing BF3..roughly 600 watts...but i dont mind spending A little extra for quality and future upgrades,i dont think I've used under 1000w in the last 4 or so years.lol

The way I look at it,my PSU isn't even breaking a sweat...less heat.

To clarify I was being a bit Sarcastic/facetious no I didn't expect anyone to "end thread" but what I’m saying is, more like the phrase "nothing but net" or something similar, I 100% agree with all the posts saying it's PSU, I get the feeling suggesting anything along the lines of drivers will send him on a wild goose chase. When looking at his PSU it just isn't reliable.

Going with a solid brand name PSU with reliable results will solve tons of issues. Especially when the signs are your computer shuts down when running BF3 AKA GPU is unable to adequately draw power from the PSU 12V rail.

agreed.... heck I know for a fact that at the very least if you bought one and it didn't solve it you could always send it back to a place like newegg with very little trouble. yes it can be a hassle but I get the feeling it will fix it.
