I have been out of touch for a while and am just now coming back to the overclocking scene.
To spend the least and get the most what will it be???

Thanks, DREW

AMD, I can't really say.
Intel, 700E@933mhz and beyond.

I'm in the same boat as this dude. Last year, I did quite a bit of reading on Delphi's Tom Hardware Forum and finally decided on the Celeron 566 on a Asus P3V4X with 256MB PC133 RAM. I've had it OC from day one at 850MHz (100MHz FSB). While this is still fast, I'm jealous of the 1GHz+ contenders!

Should I keep my P3V4X and upgrade the cpu to a PIII? Or opt for a TBird/Duron on a board like the Asus A7V133?

I'm looking to stay in the $200-$300 range. So will it be a new Pentium or a AMD CPU/Board upgrade?

Choices...choices!

Well - you'll get a good AMD CPU and mobo for about that, but you'll need some serious cooling to get it stable over 1GHz I expect. I see the duron 850s are from about $74 on pricewatch - so you should hit your budget okay with an A7V133. You have 133 RAM already (presumeably CAS2 - SiSoft SANDRA will tell you, although my old CAS3 PC133 runs at CAS2/148 - I guess I'm lucky!)

The Athlons start a bit higher, but are slightly better optimised for todays world. Looks like the 900/950s are coming in at a good price. Get one with a code set of AXIA (first four initials on line 3 of the die) as they seem to have the best overclocking legs.

Pete.
