Dear All

I inserted my new CPU in to the PackardBell today, and my worst fears were confirmed: The PC screen did not light up!

I saw the motherboard and it is indeed an ACER motherboard. Please see attatched images

Here is some additional writing on the motherboard:

Acer Inc. e1
H67H2-AD

Please can you help me identify the motherboard through acer, and the available BIOS updates for this motherboard

I really need your help!

Thanking you,

Ray

@CRT120Hz

you're welcome. The SSD is installed inside my pc. Can show you picture if you want.

about the GPU. Oh nice to see that you want a stronger gpu than the the GT 1030... hmm, I recommend getting a 1050 or a 1050 ti. This is my 1050ti paired with i7-2600k. Works well in playing PS4 games. :) https://www.msi.com/Graphics-Card/GeForce-GTX-1050-Ti-4GT-OC/Specification

last reminders though, and please don't forget these. .

1. The 1050ti and other gpu are often longer and taller than GT 1030. The safest to buy is still the 1030, because all GT 1030 are small and are sure to fit into your case.. but if you want a stronger gpu, be sure to check if it would fit into your case before buying.

2. Stronger gpu would have a higher power requirement. Check as well if the power supply of your pc has enough power to run it. A 1030 needs only 300 watt, a 1050 ti want 350 watt, and a 1650 needs a 400 watt or higher power supply.

Dear @Tac 25

Thank you so much for explaining.

I was examining the image of all your hard drives. Did you have to externally connect them for it to show?

Also, supposing I reconnect my old hardrive, what would I see? Would it be just the files or would the full os be visible and usable. Like imagine I had windows 10 and then I plugged in this hardrive with windows 7. Would I be transferred into a windows 7 working environment?

I was thinking of keeping my old games on the HDD so when I reconnect the hdd, can I still play these games?

Thank you once again

@CRT120Hz

here is what's inside my Q9500 pc, it has a GTX 1650. You can see in the picture that it has a 550 watt power supply.

this is where the SSD is located

externally? no. I screwed the SSD into the case. Disconnected the SATA of the HDD. Connected a SATA to the SSD. Installed Windows 10 to the SSD using a usb.

___

My old hard drive is also Windows 7. The SSD has windows 10. When I connected the old hard drive, windows 10 saw the files. No, if you booted with the Windows 10 SSD, you would not be transferred to a Windows 7 environment.

__

About games. Some of my games still worked, some did not. Those that did not work, I just reinstalled them.

you're welcome. I hope you can find a good gpu. :)
sorry, deleted my comment last night. Did not notice that you replied.

btw, out of curiosity. Have you checked how much is the output of your power supply?
depending on what gpu you get. We might have to upgrade the power supply as well.

That's interesting! I'm not sure really what my power supply output is. I will do some research. Its Still the packardbell onetwo l5851. I don't think any gpu with two fans would fit, but I think a low profile gpu like the gigabyte gt 1050 would fit as the low profile variant is about the same size as the gt 1030. Thanks for letting me know about this.

Dear @Tac 25

I found the manual and It says power supply unit max output 220w

Power Supply Unit
Item
Output (max.)
Supported models

Specification
220 W

Supported models:
• Chicony CPB09-D220R / CPB09-D220A / CPB09-D220E (FR 220W, ES)

• Lite-On PS-5221-06A2 / PE-5221-08AF / PS-5221

What does this mean for installing a 300 plus watt gpu?

Thank you so much

looks like you need to replace your power supply with a better one. How old is the power supply of your pc?

___

you probably have to make a new thread on the power supply section of the forum,

I am unfamiliar with the pc case that you have. Other people can give you better advice on what power supply to put into your pc case. To use for GTX 1050.

Dear, @Tac 25

Hope you are well.

I finally found myself some free time and I ordered a 1tb crucial ssd, and I installed windows 10 with a bookable USB. Thankyou so much for this advice!

It works really well, too!

The original casing for the hdd was really large. The ssd wouldn't fit well. So, I used tape.

Now, I am looking at gpu. I saw that nvidia t400 series are slim and low profile. In your opinion, how do these graphics cards perform. I am researching in to power supply unit too.

@CRT120Hz

nice to hear from you again. Yeah, an SSD is a lot faster than your old HDD. :)

Windows 10 should work fine in your pc now. The only reason it was slow, is because your pc only had 3 GB ram before.

an SSD has no moving parts, it's fine to secure it with tape.

___

cannot really make a comment on the t400 series, have no experience using those gpu.

but I would advise you to always buy brand new gpu, for better warranty. Don't buy second hand.

___

goodluck on searching for a good PSU.

better to make a thread at the PSU section of the forum. So more people can help find a good PSU for your pc.
