My computer appeared to have died on me. I was installing my motherboard onto a new case. After installing everything, I turned on the computer ans everything was fine and I got into Windows. Then I pluggged in a USB device and then my system froze. Next I tried to restart it but couldn't. Now when I turn on the computer, nothing appears. The computer beeps, the power light is on, the CPU and power fans are turning, and the mouse is on (via ps2 port) but the keyboard and USB ports are not running. I teseted the computer on another computer and it works fine. I tried reinstalling the graphics card but that didnt fix it. It might be a dead motherboard but Im not entirely sure.

My guess, is when you switched to new case, you connected the USB header wrong. When a USB device was used, it didn't work due to the pins not being correctly attached. This happen to me when I plugged in my Firewire header to the front of my case. Well, I never got it to work, but it hung, and wouldn't POST. Try unplugging the header, and also reset the CMOS. Then try to reboot. If you plugged the USB device into one of the ports in the back right to the motherboard, that may indicate a more serious problem. In any event, reset the CMOS.

When I read your reply, I thought that would fix it since it appeared to be the same problem but it didnt so it might not be a problem caused by wrong USB installation. I resetted the CMOS but it didnt do anything.

Ok. Got a few more ideas. First remove the power plug from the power supply. Then remove the CMOS battery on the motherboard. Leave the battery out for a good 1/2 hour. It sounds weird, but some boards retain their settings for a while, even when the battery is removed due to the fact that there is still energy in the capacitors. After that, remove and reseat the video card, and memory. Then put the battery back in, and turn the computer on. See, if you get any beeps at all. I think the Asus boards will talk to you, what the error is. I know my Asus A7N8X Deluxe board will talk to me, saying memory error or such.( if you have it enabled in the BIOS). It is enabled as default. If all of the above doesn't work, you may have to RMA your board with Asus. I had to do it once, when I overclocked, and the BIOS crashed 🙁

Thanks for that suggestion. I forgot about that POST voice thing. It indicates that "System failed CPU test" so i reinstalled the CPU and it still repeats the same message.

Are you getting anything on the screen? Are you able to enter the BIOS setup? If you are, try disabling Q CPU fan control and AMD 'Cool and Quiet'. I read where these can cause CPU errors on start up. Also, you did plug in both power connectors? (the 20 pin, and 4pin square connector at top of board)

if your header looks like this:

.....
....

Then, it should be:
rwgbB
rwgb

Where r is red, w is white, g is green, b is black and B is a bigger black wire.

Some connector as the bigger wire, some doesnt have it.

Just check on your motherboard if it is how they are connected.. if not, then save for a new motherboard.

-Always put the blame on you first, then on the hardware !!!

everything is plugged in, Im not getting anything on screen
