Hello!

I never post things on forums but I am desperate. I have had no issues with my internet for the past 2 years. Suddenly, 3 days ago, I can no longer play online games because the lag spikes and rubber banding renders the game unplayable. I have run all sorts of speed tests and bufferbloat tests and everything comes back as normal. Any use of internet that is NOT gaming related works perfectly fine.

Someone please help!!! It is getting to the point of desperation! I have contacted my ISP and they take me in circles. There is no outage in my area and they say it all looks normal

Info: I am running a high end gaming pc so I dont believe the problem is due to my pc set up, but I could be wrong.

It can be many things that are not network related. The simplest test is to open a couple of cmd windows. Leave a constand ping run to your router IP in one and to a common server like 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8

When the game has issue quickly swap over and see if you see loss or very large latency spikes.

You seldom get issues to the router IP.......unless you are playing on wifi and then it is very common to get lag spikes.

If you get no loss or latency spikes to either your router or to 8.8.8.8 I would start to suspect something else. This would mean that your network works well from your house through your ISP to googles network. It could the the game company ISP but you can't really do anything about that.

This means it is likely related to the game code and something on your machine. What you see people say is they "fix" high in game ping by changing video settings. That is almost silly since the video does not go over the network. What is happening is the game is so busy doing video stuff that it gets delayed checking the buffer for the response to its "ping". When it finally gets around to checking it blames the delay on the network even though the data was sitting there.

Maybe the resource monitor will give you a clue. These are hard because the game companies do not tell much how things work to prevent hackers.

Still wifi would be the most common cause of this. You do not have to change anything, one of your neighbors could have gotten a new router and is running on the same radio channels as you. BUT you will see the ping times spike to the router if this is the case.

The lag spikes happens in every game that I have tried. I also played perfectly fine when I connected my pc to my hotspot.

What would you try in terms of troubleshooting?
