Yes you heard that right. First gaming PC! Now I know some stuff about PCs and I watched a lot of Linus tech tips videos. I don’t have a budget and I want the absolute top-of-the-line most powerful PC you can put together. They are some parts that I already know I want and there are others that I don’t know nothing about. Here is the list that I have currently.

Video Card: GeForce RTX 4090
CPU: Core i9-13900KS
Memory: RAM 32GB DDR5
Storage: 2TB SSD
Operating system: Windows 11

Motherboard: ?
Power supply: ?
CPU Cooler: ? (I don’t want liquid cooling)
Case: ?

Now I have the pcpartpicker custom PC choose your parts thing and I only have the CPU and operating system picked out. I know what I want for my ram, storage, and video card but there’s just so many different types that I don’t know which one to pick. I completely don’t know what I want for my motherboard, power supply, CPU cooler, and case. I may need some help with all of this so can someone please help me. Thanks!

14000 series CPUs will likely be out before year end. Can you wait?

"most powerful PC you can put together........."

why stop at 32 GB RAM? I assume more is better?

You may get frowning if you insist on air cooling.

Are you sure you want only 1 drive?

Oh Yes i can wait. I am not getting the pc parts until later on this year anyway.

Well i am not going to have thousands of tabs open in the background and basically all games won’t use more than 32GB.

Frowing?

For the SSD? Yes i do. I won’t have many games installed. 2TB is already a lot for me.

frowning
/ˈfrouniNG/
noun: the action of forming an expression of disapproval, displeasure, or concentration, typically by turning down the corners of the mouth.

I don't think anybody yet knows which exact 14000 series will be released this year.

Performance details won't be known until then.

Maybe a 14700K tops.

Maybe a 14900K but no 14900KS.

I suppose you should wait if you want absolute top of the line and have no budget.

Well yeah i know what frowning is. I thought it was used for something else for PC cooling or some thing.

Yeah I can wait. Any news for the GeForce 50 series?

Don't know about GeForce.

You've got a lot of time....at least a month.

I'd shop around for stuff that would work regardless of your eventual CPU choice.

Case should be wide enough to accept the tallest air coolers, which are in the 160 mm to 165 mm range. That max cooler height specification would be mentioned for any decent case. Make sure you pay attention to airflow. Look at Lian Li or Fractal Design, to name a couple.

Unlimited budget? I'd certainly get multiple drives...for backup purposes if nothing else. No reason OS and games have to be on same drive, but that's an option.

Do you want flashing lights and all that stuff? Maybe spring for a bunch of RGB case fans. Or quiet fans if you don't like noise.

You can get as extravagant as you want on motherboard.....500 dollars and above. But that mostly gets you a bunch of features you may not need at all. If Intel, probably get a Z790 chipset. I don't think 14000 series CPUs will have issues with Z790, but you'd need to confirm that before laying the money down. MSI or Gigabyte?

Upper region air coolers would include Noctua D15 and maybe something from BeQuiet or one or two others. Not many.

Power supplies; top brands would include Corsair RM series, Seasonic, and isolated choices from other brands.

Don't get in a rush. 14000 series likely to provide minimal improvement over 13000. Many would tell you the 13900KS is not necessary for gaming superiority, but maybe you won't sleep well without it, so knock yourself out.

I post a lot of gaming builds on Linus forums but with that said he's not someone I would look at for tech advice.

I'd look at something like this if I were building a gaming build today.

The difference between this cpu + gpu at 4K and the 13900KS with same gpu at 4K is 5 fps tops. The difference being this cpu down below runs a heck of a lot cooler and is a go to cpu for air cooling. Easy to work with case, ATX 3.0 psu, etc ...

Ok i’ll get two 2TB SSD’s.

Nah i am a simple man. I’m not a fan of all the crazy RGB lights though some builds do look pretty cool though with them.
MSI or Gigabyte?

I don’t know the difference. I had a MSI gaming laptop years ago though and I thought it was just a brand that releases gaming laptops.

If you're going to run dual M.2 SSD's then look at a Z790 board for the extra PCIe lanes such as this board if you were to go with an i7.

I’m gonna go for the i9-14900K when it releases. But thanks for the info anyway

Yeah I’m just nervous that if I get a AIO cooler it will have a chance of leaking and ruining my PC. I might consider it though especially if I want a top-of-the-line powerful PC.
I'm a big proponent of air cooling myself and unless you plan on doing professional video editing an i9 is not the way to go for a gaming build. All you get with an i9 vs an i7 is more E-Cores and those cores are pretty much worthless for gaming.

This review was done with a RTX 4090.

Jesus yeah there’s very little difference between the i7 and i9. Just a couple FPS difference. I just saw a video saying that even the most powerful air cooler couldn’t cool the i9 core very well and most likely need liquid cooling. Yeah I think the i9 core is a bit overkill and I wouldn’t be in needed if I’m strictly playing games and nothing else. I’ll probably get the i7 then. Is the 4090 good graphics card and it’s 32 GB of DDR5 RAM good also and enough?
