Help GPU Question (Geforce Go 6600 Vs Mobility Radion X1400)

Ok in my search for a midpriced laptop i have learned that GF6600>X600, on all counts, but now i need info or an oppinon on Geforce Go 6600 Vs Mobility Radion X1400. also i always try to find places where i can compair these two gpu's, or specs on them, and all i ever seem to find is company propaganda. so if you could also let me know the sights you guys go for info so i dont have to annoy anyone with these simple questions in my search for a new laptop

from what i have learned my self the gg6600=mrx700 if that is true then that would mean that the mrx1400>gg6600. can anyone confirm or disprove that.

Do you mean X1300?

I didn't think there was an X1400... is that a mobile only part?

Yes I believe its the X1300XT Mobility.

Why not try for one with a 6800 Go or the new X1600XT mobility.

For the lower end I'd personally want the X700 Mobility w/ 256MB.

no it is a 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 with HyperMemory from a Dell E1705. the reason i am only looking at the x1400 and the GG6600 is because that is what is on the 2 laptops i have narrowed my search down to. from this sight http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=39568 i found that the x1400 is the new updated X600, and that the 6600 is the old version of the 7600. the 6600 is beter than the x600, but the 6600 is older than the x1400. This is where i get lost, because i dont know what they did to improve the x1400, and if it is now better than the old 6600.

I did a bit of research, the mobile X1400 uses the same GPU as an X1300's, probably clocked slightly higher.

Which to buy? From what I've researched, the 6600 Go has a 64-bit memory interface and the X1400 has a 128-bit interface, this should give the X1400 the edge in gaming.

Plus the X1400 has much better DVD viewing and encoding features. So it get's my vote.

is that 128-bit for something else, and they are realy 64-bit. I just want to get my facts straight. im hopeing that the X1400 is better thoe, because that would mean i would get a dell, but the go6600 i would be getting an ABS laptop, and i realy havent heard much about them. But i do know dell can make a quality laptop, even if their customer service/Tech support sucks out loud.

Maybe. Reviews and comparisons of laptop GPUs are hard to come by I'm afraid.

If they're both 128-bit the 6600 should have a slight gaming edge... if the 6600 has a 64-bit interface, the X1400 should have the edge...

Thanks to everyone for all their input, im still confused as hell, but from what i gather is the 2 cards are verry similar so i should flip a coin, or base my decision on the other specs of a laptop. wish they had a test drive ability where i could play world of warcraft on each and see which one i like the most 🙂

The GF6600 has both 128bit and 64bit options.

The majority are 128bit which is the typical connector 64bit is the exception IMO.

And from what I've seen the X1400 and GF6600 trade blows, and both are below the X1600.

BUT, according to one of the posts I've seen in the notebook section, the X700 is 35% better (don't know where the figures come from) than the X1400, so to me that would read as slightly below but close to the GF6600;

Personally I'd pick the X1400 for the added 2D video features as they are more important to my laptop use than 3D, but having the useable extra 3D features is also a nice bonus. Neither is really a great gaming solution, my MRX700 is better than both, and still leaves me wanting sometimes, but like you said WOW is far from stressfull so go for the other features.

LOL, yah i know it easy on the card, because my 32mb x300 on my t40 plays it super smooth. But, its not that pretty, i want it too look better, and if i get drunk in the game i want my screen to get fuzzy... its the simple things in life i enjoy 🙂

also other games i would like to play if i had a better card are, Black and White 2, and Half Life 2.
