I've recently upgraded my old PC. However I have no audio, only a distorted high pitch static. I've deleted the old audio drivers and installed the one for this motherboard, but to no avail, and the troubleshooter was no help either.

The noise is much more quiet through the rear jack, but there is still no audio.

Windows & Home Premium
Old Mobo: Intel DQ57TM
New Mobo: MSI Z68S- G43 (G3)

I can suggest a couple of ideas.

First, do you have an added video card in a PCIe slot, or are you using the video capabilities of your CPU to get video from either the VGA or the DVI jacks on the mobo back panel? IF you have an added video card, I bet it has an HDMI output socket, and you MAY be using that, maybe not. But here's the reason for the question. It is very difficult to get the audio output signals from a mobo sound system (yours has a Realtek on board) into a video card so that it can be sent out on the HDMI port to a monitor that has speakers. So almost all cards like that have their own sound chip built into the video card so it can send out sound on the HDMI port. This means your computer actually has TWO audio output...
MAYBE on new mobo You have another jack socket type, and Your jack doesn't fit there, so u got noise and no sound. (sometimes You experience similar problems with headphones - both slots should be the same, but they aren't)
Try with different jacks ( headphones?). Try to manipulate with the jack a little (maybe try to pull it 0.5 mm back and again and again - see what happens

If it doesn't help, check the drivers and audio configuration. Maybe the slot You plug Your jack in is not configured as out?

IF you have an added video card, I bet it has an HDMI output socket, and you MAY be using that, maybe not. But here's the reason for the question. It is very difficult to get the audio output signals from a mobo sound system (yours has a Realtek on board) into a video card so that it can be sent out on the HDMI port to a monitor that has speakers. So almost all cards like that have their own sound chip built into the video card so it can send out sound on the HDMI port. This means your computer actually has TWO audio output devices. But Windows can only use ONE of those at a time. Usually when you have such a video card, at the time that its drivers are installed to get it working, the Install process also installs the driver for the sound chip on the video card, and THEN it switches a setting in Windows to make it use that sound chip and NOT use the mob's built-in Realtek system. So, no sound from the front or rear jacks connected only to the mobo sound chip. IF this is what you have, go into Control Panel and look for the Sound configuration system. In it you will find two or three items for specifying the Default Sound Playback device, the default Sound Recording Device, and maybe a Default MIDI output device. For each of those there us a drop-down mini-window or something similar that allows you to see what device is being used, and to change it if you wish. I suspect your Default Sound Playback Device is set to whatever system is on your video card, and you can change that to use the Realtek system on your mobo. If so, check also what the setting is for the Default Sound Recording Device and change it if necessary. That should get you sound on the front and rear mobo panel jacks.

Now, whether or not that is really the source of your trouble, check this point also. Your screen should have an icon at bottom right to access the Realtek HD Audio Manager. This is only applicable IF you are actually using the mobo-based Realtek system. See your mobo manual, p. A-3 and A-4. Look at the Jack Status Panel. Realtek has a system that allows you to change what device is plugged into what jack, and one result of that is that sometimes when you connect and disconnect things it does not know what you have done and sends NOTHING out of its output jacks. So, look at the Jack Status Panel and make sure that it HAS check marks for the Front Speaker Out and Mic In and Line In jacks. Well, actually I think your mobo has only front speakers and not others, so that may be the only Speaker jack it shows.
