I am at wit's end.
I have a Panasonic 8432 (a Matshita RW-7585). Everything was working fine. Then - for no reason - it started reporting any media I attempted to write to as unwriteable.
This happened at some point over the course of two months. I didn't touch it for about that long.
When it reported the problem, I varied the the type of disc I am attempting to write to and those discs have been tried in other burners successfully. It is NOT the media. When the burner USED to work (back in December) it wrote to this media type no prob. Gold silver - the colour was no problem.
The burner reads without a hitch. CD-R's, RW, and stock burns. It reads smooth as silk.
I have varied the burning program. CDRWin, Nero, Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum and Liquid MP3 all report the same problem - the disc is not writeable. I have made sure that only one burner program was on the drive at any time - and have gone so far as to wipe Fdisk ans resintall windows to insure that is the case.
Nero analyzes the disk as having no capacity.
I brought the unit back - and to my knowledge - they replaced it with another unit (same model). Assuming they did not lie to me and simply cleaned it up a little repackaged it cleverly - I have a NEW Panasonic 8432. And now it has the same problem.
I wiped windows and reinstalled. I Fdisked. I Formatted. I shouted and screamed and threateneed it with percussive maintenance.
No dice.
There are not any drivers made for this thing - it uses the stock drivers in Win and, presumably, in whatever burning program I attempt to use.
Okay. I give up. Does anyone have any idea? It USED to work and now it does not. WTF?
Running Win98SE (fully updated), Abit BE6 rev 2.0, 192 megs ram. Burner is set up as a master with no slave. Board reports it fine at post and - as I have said -it reads no problem.
Ask it to write a disc and it is as stubborn as a mule.
