My current computer needs to put out of it's misery. I'm looking to build a new gaming computer. My budget is $1000ish. It doesn't have to be a hard core gaming system. I'm thinking 2 SSD's one smallish one for the OS and a larger one for programs and games. It's been about 10 years since I have build one, so I'm hoping you guys can help.

TIA

You're advised to stylize your post with info asked of in this thread;
Inclusive of where you're located, what your preferred suite for purchase is. If you include your current specs, it's possible you could recycle something from your current build moving onto the new one(storage) which may or may not affect the size of your build.

I tend to gravitate towards a SFF build where possible.

I'd love to see your SFF build. I'm flexable with the budget.

If I upped my amount by a few hundred dollars, would that change the build much?

This would be a good start, when looking at something over $1k.

The AsRock z690 Extreme is only $5 more. It's a better motherboard in every way but crucially it can be flashed without a CPU. Doesn't make much of a difference if starting with a 12th gen CPU, but it helps if going with 13/14th gen.
The VRM on the Extreme is good enough for a 14900K, and it's a ridiculously cheap motherboard today (wasn't when new).

I would agree with that, specially on intel you really want to look for the better VRMs.
