hi guyz,i am planning to upgrade my PC.I want this PC to work smoothly with auto cad and other design and analysis software as i am doing mechanical engineering and budget is $600.plz tell me whether the configuration what i have decided is good or not.plz give your suggestions to get the best for the money.

Motherboard-Intel® Desktop Board DP45SG
Processor-Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E8500 (6M Cache, 3.16 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB).
Graphics card-Plz Suggest me(i prefer ATI cards)
Hard drive-320 Gb(7,200 rpm)
Ram-4Gb
Power supply Unit-500W(Is this PSU enough or i need more and tell how huch pci connectors it should have with type of pin)
Optical Disk-Sony AD-7220s-ID

Doubts
*In my Case does the extra cores have a greater role or the clock speed matters.
*Plz Suggest a good graphics card to suit my needs(ATI cards preferred)

Don't get intel boards, they are overpriced IMO. GA-Ep43-UD3L. Go with a quad Q9400 if you can swing it, it will help out a lot. Unless you get a Workstation GPU (which are horribly expensive) then you don't need a good one, just let the CPU do the work. A HD 4550 will be fine. Doesn't sound like gaming is a concern so just get a basic GPU and put the rest into the best quad-core processor you can afford.

xthekidx,.so, i my i case i need go for powerful processor rather than going for a powerful GPU am i correct.(But still will be able run at-least some of the new games available.)Okay then i prefer Q9400 and plz tell me which motherboard is best for this processor and configuration of mine.(plz Give some variety of suggestions)Will this configuration satisfy my needs at-least for three years??.

Well sure DDR3 prices are coming down....but currently am not sure they offer significant advantage over DDR2...
And I doubt tat intel will stick wit the 775 socket for long because there are news around tat Mainstream core i5s are coming...
So instead stick wit DDR2 mobos, they will surely be gud for abt 2 yrs or mayb more... wit processor upgrades and memory upgrades....

Rendering will use all 4 cores of the quad core processor, its twice as fast as going with a dual core at the same clock speed, I would recommend going with a quad if you do a lot of rendering. However if you want to be able to game, then you will need to put more money into the gpu, an HD 4830 at least depending on your monitor's resolution. If that doesn't leave room for a quad, then the dual will be fine too. A good compromise would be going with the PII x3 720.

What brand is that PSU? I only recommend getting a Corsair, PC Power & Cooling, Antec, Seasonic, or perhaps OCZ. Cheap PSU's die often and will take many other components with them.

For CAD you want a lot more ram, at least 4gb, 8gb if you can fit it in the budget. However you can just add 4 more GB later if you can't afford it.

What HDD is that? My suggestion is WD3200AAKS for 320gb drives.

bro,okay i get good psu, but is the 500w enough to fuel my pc?Is this model of HDD WD3200AAKS suitable for 10 to 20 hours of continuous running as i will be downloading a lot)

Final thing is i need good cabinet plz suggest me some cabinets which suits best for my motherboard Intel Desktop Board DP45SG(i prefer Intel because of its quality).Thnx..

As for the case and PSU , get the Antec Sonata III has the antec EA 500W PSU....gud case + gud PSU...

Gigabyte and Asus make very high quality boards too. The Intel reference boards are limited and I wouldn't recommend them. If you mean Case by "cabinet", then I recommend this:

hi,japps2 thnx a lot.i don't know about these special series cards at all.My question is what is the difference between normal graphics cards and this Fire GL series cards.plz explain me.
I opt for this card ATI FireGL V3350 will this card be able to run some new games(or it is only meant for 3d modeling)? Thnx.

Workstation cards are not meant for gaming, that card will not play games. Gaming cards are good at gaming, but suck at workstation tasks, and visa versa due to different drivers.
